TJ, do you feel that you have any fluid in your ears?
No, I don't think so. I know when I was 5 years old I had pneumonia ànd a middle ear infection and had gone totally deaf. And that my hearing did come back to about 80 percent. At least that's what the doctor told us. Hearing aids have been a blessing now. Anyone who has ever been hearing impaired will no doubt understand that. I never knew what I had been missing. I will definitely be getting back to the specialist and have them fine tuned though as I don't think that I should be getting feedback through them as much as I do. I have found out how much noise and older man can make unintentionally, as I'm hearing noises that I didn't quite know that my old body was making. Lol. As I said before this has opened up a bit of the world that I never knew that I was missing. Thank you for your kind words and knowledge of my situation. I would definitely tell anyone who thinks that they may have a hearing problem to go be tested and take any help that they can get.
I'd had a fluid problem not long ago. Hearing problems isolate us from so much of our environment! I started to have to constantly explain to everyone things like...just knock...oh, but if I don't come to the door, ring the bell,...uh, and yell...uh, and call me on my cell phone...and...until they'd say, "Yeah. I got it."

I understand completely, I now take my hearing aids out at night and it's like I've just turned the world off. It's incredible, for instance; tonight I took them out next to the kitchen sink, as I took them out the water I had running suddenly became completely quite.
Yes, those "small sounds" really give big clues as to what's going on. Like hearing whether or not a clock is ticking,...or, if I drop a safety pin, where did it land? on the floor? or did it land on the fabric of my clothes? I'm glad your hearing aides are working for you.
I live in the country and am surrounded by Farm fields. I have been hearing noises that I have never heard before. I set out in my enclosed porch at night. I hear animals now walking through my yard. I use to hear the coyotes, but only if they were close by. Now it seems like they are never too far away. I hear cars almost as soon as they turn on my road from town, which is a mile away, I never use to hear them at all until they were right by my property. I'm astounded by how much I didn't hear and didn't miss hearing. I guess that my hearing had been going or mostly gone for a very long time. And now I have found that people who have been around me for along time, friends and family, are still speaking loudly to me because that was what they were use to doing.I think my hearing aids are awesome.
Yes, car noise can be heard quite a distance when it's out in the country and there's nothing else going on. After my ears got unstopped from my episode with fluid, I realized that, if it was time for my aide to arrive, and I heard a car door slam, that signaled me to get ready to open the front door. Without hearing the car door slam, I would be in the middle of something and have to rush to put things down safely before I could go open the door. Hearing contributes to independence.
