I just had the weirdest experience. I had to put drops in my eyes a week before surgery, then continue for several weeks after. After awhile I noticed that all sediment was gone and my urine became so clear it actually sparkled. It was wonderful. A few weeks after discontinuing the drops, the sediment began to return with the occasional cloudiness. Has anyone else experienced this? I know some of the drops went down my throat, but it's hard to imagine that they would have that effect. I have self cathed for 25 years and have never experienced anything like this.
It was cataract surgery. I assume the drops were to prevent infection. I have no idea what the drops are. The bottle says Pred-Gati-Nepf. 1%/0.5%/0.1% vintage,
Pred-Gati-Nepf is a gentamicin based steroid use for pre-ocular surgery. Gentamicin is a powerful antibiotic. It used to treat urinary infections. This might help explain why your urine was so much clearer.
I am a C5/C6 Incomplete quad since 2000 with a suprapubic catheter. About 12 years ago, my catheter would get plugged solid every 3-4 days and have to be changed. A nurse cut open one of the plugged catheters and found it was plugged with white sediment that looked like talcum powder. On another SCI forum, I read where a number of SCI people were using an antibiotic on a prophylactic basis to eliminate the sediment build up. This made sense to me because any time I was on an antibiotic, I did not get sediment build up.I discussed this with my Urologist and he put me on a daily dose of 500mg Amoxycillin. Ever since, I have not had an issue. Some doctors are against long term use of an antibiotic because of the possibility of developing a resistance to it. All I can say is my quality of life has improved dramatically since I started taking the antibiotic. Consult your doctor prior to taking an antibiotic.
