Finally, we can set our priorities!

The UKs Stoke Mandeville Spinal Foundation (SMSF) together with the The James Lind Alliance have come together to provide a unique opportunity for the spinal cord injury, cauda equina and transverse myelitis communities to shape the future research priorities by conducting priority setting survey. The survey is not only open to individuals living with those conditions but also families, caregivers, health and social care professionals.

Do you have any questions that spinal cord injury researchers should investigate? This questionnaire is a unique opportunity for people with experience of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) to help shape future research in this area.

The survey is indeed UK based, however the survey is open to everyone both national and international. Nobody will be excluded. I think it's important to ask the question within the survey: "How can we repair or regenerate the chronically injured spinal cord"? Our quality of life in all the different categories would be improved if funding were to be used in the repair and regeneration of the damaged cord. We could have immense improvements in our quality of life if people start to become very focused and money is put into repair and regeneration research! I hope everyone takes a moment to fill out the survey and specifically ask about repair and regeneration of the cord. I can't even imagine with all of the recent discoveries that quality of life wouldn't be improved a lot for everybody if this research were actually funded. We desperately need funding and focus on the damage of the spinal cord so we have a fighting chance of restoring function. Now that would be improving lives!
