This is my first post in a while since I've been in the hospital and unable to. Thought I'd share my latest stay. With having such a high injury and being on the ventilator its important I keep my lungs clear of mucus, but apparently we weren't doing it enough. End result caught pneumonia which took alittle over two weeks to clear up. The way we where clearing my lungs before was through suction and as evidence suggest wasn't good enough. My insurance just approved a new cough assist machine which should help. Haven't got it yet, has anyone had experience using the cough assist?
Some side advice if you need to get your wheelchair to the hospital get family to help or find a friend or family member that has a vehicle that can transport it. We don't have a van yet so my family got a transport company to deliver it to the hospital. Unfortunately for some reason the guy tried to drive my chair through the head array out of the van and ripped my omni display off. He claims he didn't know how to turn the attendant control on. Couldn't really us my chair for a few days without driving blind so to speak, had to wait for the transport company's insurance. All fixed now but just wanted to give that friendly tip.
