Did you know that Sunday 3rd December is the International Day of People with Disabilities? It was founded by the United Nations in 1992 with the aim of raising understanding for those who live with disability every day.
I actually didn't even know that it existed . I noticed that one of the the suggested ways to celebrate the day is to maybe hold events where disabled people are given opportunity to participate in particular activities, if the day is targetted as a fun day for those with disabilities who ordinarily not get opportunity to enjoy such things then all good. But if the purpose is to raise understanding then I think that there needs to be much more done.
There are so many areas that are in dire need of more understanding, employers in particular, accessibility, equal rights and so on. Educate employers on how beneficial it is to them to be role models in the industry and employ people with disabilities just as they would a person without disabilities.
Here is the website, let us know if there are any celebrations in your area!
