Hi Everyone!
I am a junior in high school and I'm currently taking an anatomy class. We have a year-long project where we have to learn about a specific chronic condition, and I got spinal cord injuries. For the project, we are to understand the anatomy and physiology behind the condition and learn how our condition affects people's day to day lives.
If anyone has any personal experiences, stories, challenges, or anything to share about spinal cord injuries, I'd really appreciate hearing from you!
A good place to look, Grace, is on each profile. Click on the avatar, open the profile, and read under 'summary'. There are also charts on the internet that diagram what parts of the body are affected according to which vertibrae is injured. The chart will tell, for example, whether an injury at a certain level will leave the person able to use their arms, but not their fingers, or able to use all of their upper body, but not their stomach muscles or legs. Here's one of those charts, but there are many others.
I don't have anything specific to tell you, I am dad of an 8yo boy with a SCI, your are more than welcome to message me with any questions you might have, I have a different perspective to just about everyone here being parent and decision maker for him.. The experience I have to most here is quite different.
just reading around the forum sill give you a lot of insight into conditions people face, both social medical, and physical. It is an interesting topic and I think you pulled a good one. Read Christopher Reeve's biography.
I step in the water, but the water has moved on...
