Hi-not sure if this is the right spot for this. I've been getting botox for leg spasticity for 2 yrs at the best hospital in the city. It took about 20 minutes. My Dr.used an emg machine and I could feel her wipe with the alcohol pad and the injections..the needle moving a bit bit but didn't hurt. She'd have me on my side and shifting so she could reach my inner thighs and calves. Completely took away ALL spasticity and legs scissoring. She moved and this new Dr. took 20 SECONDs. No machine..I felt nothing and was flat on my back..never moved. In fact I was waiting for her to hook up the emg.it had no effect whatsoever. how do you know if you were injected in fat and not muscle? They said that's the only Botox Dr so I have to go to the neurology dept and start over it will take forever.
So the other thing to be aware of is that even if they missed, they will make you wait 3-4 months for another round of Botox in the same area. It’s something about how it’s regulated.
I had a baclafan pump placed almost a year ago that has taken care of all my leg spasticity. The downside is it takes away my ability to help with my feet on my transfers and reduced my trunk control. Last week I went in and had the rate turned down and the leg spasms are gradually returning. Maybe an option for you?
Wow..3-4 months! Guess this will be a bad winter for me. I took oral baclofen but it did nothing for me. I don't know why. Do you even think she hit the muscle at all??? How long do you guys take for botox injections? When she said I was done and could leave I was shocked. I didn't feel a thing.
Baclofen pumps are supposed to be more effective at much lower dosages than orally, because directly into the CSF.
I don’t know. I’ve never had anyone need an EMG to do Botox in my legs - they just of say “huh. that is some ridiculous extension.” poke me the calves a couple of times and call it good, which it has always been. They always warn you it can take up to two weeks to be effective but the person who talked me into trying it told me that she believes that if it takes that long, they didn’t hit the right muscles and they’re just counting on it kind of seeping over to where you needed it in the first place.
