I'm in a dilemma with my left foot, it gets edema and it isn't minor swelling it is a significant swelling during the day. at night I use a cushion to keep foot elevated and it goes down fairly well at night. I try and use compression socks but they do more harm than good because my only strong hand cuts up leg when struggling to put on with my fingernails. so what I did was buy zipper compression socks with an open toe and I am able to get them on better without damage. but my ankle is to large to zip up the compression sock, so does anyone have any good ideas to bring ankle swelling down? I find it hard to believe that the only defense against edema is compression socks or walking frequently for quads? any suggestions? please?
Those damn compression socks are a real pain to get on You can try drinking a chinese green tea everyday, it helps with fluid retention. This 90 year old lady in our building was having the same problem, both her feet were swelling up and the tea made it go away. She didn't believe me at first, so I gave her a box. Next time I saw her, she was waving her feet at me, all gone.
Also, we have the Exerpeutic Motorized Mini ActivCycle, its cheap and good for getting the blood flowing.
pixie, I take marshmallow root, hydrangea root, and gravel root tea to clean out debris from my urinary tract. What source do you use for your chinese green tea, please? I want to get some.
Chinese green tea sounds good. I guess it acts like a diuretic. Strong coffee is a diuretic but of course it has the disadvantage of keeping you awake if you drink too much.
Vintage, we drink the merilin china green tea. Its been a life changer, hubby gets a uti maybe once a year since he started drinking it over ten years ago. Just a few weeks ago, I got a uti. I was in some serious pain, thought there is no way i'm going to be able to sleep, drank two green teas and it went away. And as Mikeq said its a diuretic, in my opinion best one there is.

Mike- Many green teas have nearly as much caffeine as coffee does. It can keep you wired, definitely.
Here is my own dilemma: in order to absorb calcium it has to sit in kidneys and bladder for awhile, and a diuretic eliminates 90% of a calcium supplement. My bones must be like rice cakes- crumbly. Terrible bone density numbers. This leaves me in a quandary when I need a stimulant, which is often. I know the trick of letting 3 hours pass after using caffeine before taking the calcium supplements, but that is most often not a good solution. Both the herbal formulae I use for healthy kidney function contain diuretics. Balancing meds turns into an unsolvable challenge.
hello Tetra, nice to hear from you. I have the same problem but with sodium. If I pass too much urine it drains all the electrolytes out of my body. I keep my caffeine levels to a minimum. My fluid intake equals my urine output, so I'm not so much worried about kidney function. But my sodium levels have a habit of plummeting if I drink too much. I take sodium supplements. Incidentally, I find a black suspender belt helps with my white compressions stockings. I look rather fetching, quite sexy as I pose in front of a full-length mirror. I definitely recommend cross dressing. Especially with the long compression socks that go halfway up the thigh. My wife gets quite turned on (just joking).
sam , I think any chinese brand would work just as well
ok, my local grocery store has organic green tea, but not sure if its sourced from china? should I try or buy a Chinese brand instead?
I would start drinking the green tea from your local grocery store and see if it works for you. If not then try to find a chinese brand. We personally found that the big name brands were not as effective.

how about the green tea capsules? are they effective?
All I have right now is green tea in an Arabic container. I have a swollen foot to try it out on. It’s nighttime, so the caffeine will likely keep me awake. But I just want to go ahead and do a trial.
