Recently, I decided to carry out a general Detox, I tend to do so periodically and this time I replaced morning coffee with green tea. Surprisingly, it is a pallatable drink which I find pleasant compared to some other herbal teas,
I already knew green tea to be a healthier alternative to coffee, which incidentally, I dont drink much of either but i hadn't converted my liking of green tea enough for me to want to give up coffee but that is different now due to an interesting discovery.
I have always had, what seems to be, a low grade bladder infection, the Urologist at my unit was considering a daily anti biotic but I have been hesitant to commit to permanent medication this way. So rather than this, I have tried to manage this reoccuring issue by flushing my bladder with lemon drinks and supplements. When I can smell change in my urine, I become a more proactive with my bladder care so I try to knock any developing infection on the head.
Now to my pleasant surprise, I have not had issue since I started drinking green tea, there is a significant difference and no smell. It may be that this is coincidence but I feel not especially since reading up on studies that have been carried out on the health benefits for the bladder with drinking this tea.
But don't take my word for it... ''The results of this study have shown that green tea can have an antimicrobial effect on E. coli bacteria that cause UTIs. This is the first time that green tea has been reported to have this kind of effect. The data also adds to the current information on the potential health benefits of green tea. It is our hope that these findings will encourage further studies on the antimicrobial potential of green tea and other plant components''.
This extract above is from one study that I found especially interesting, it was carried out 11 years ago but there are also more recent studies too. Here is the source of the study that I have referred to: Original Study
I love green tea with mint or peppermint. I didn't like the taste of green tea at all at first and the mint made it more palatable for me. Not sure whether the addition of the mint makes a difference to the healing qualities - but I love the taste. Available from most big supermarkets such as Sainsury's in the UK. You can also get it flavoured with jasmine or lemon. Good to hear that my mid morning tipple also has healing benefits.
Well, Moco,, I had my 1st cup of green tea with lemon today and I thought it was horrible. Nevertheless, I treated it as medicine and drank the whole lot down. I'll try it for a week, a cup every day. Don't blame me if I vomit all over this website.

Haha. Keep at it Mike. It can take some getting used to. Peter and I went to China for a holiday about 15 years ago and it was hard to get anything BUT green tea to drink. We soon learnt to love it. Twinings do a green tea with salted caramel flavour. I don't like it but have a friend who does.
For people's information it is best to avoid green tea supplements which give many times the amount offered in a cup. There is a link with liver damage. Too much of a good thing is still too much.
I step in the water, but the water has moved on...
