My son 12 yrs. post sci. has a pressure sore, he has been in bed almost 2 months. He has not seen a doctor. The skin is healed over but is deep. I am worried, I think he should see a doctor, but need some help in convinceing him to go. He has no faith in the medical world. Any and all advice welcome.
I had a sore that I battle for a year before having flap surgery, had a wound pump for a while and it did close but it closed with a cavity in it that wasn't found until I had an MRI. The bone was exposed to air so there was a concern for osteomyelitis so I had to undergo extensive IV antibiotic and 5 weeks in the hospital.

Can you do your own research looking for a doctor in his area who is experienced with wounds? They often tunnel so that clear new skin covering the wound is just a mirage. Being the mom, he may have a history of ignoring your advice so I would try offering material printed off the internet, in short installments. See if it takes. Simple stories of others who have had success with their doctors might help. I don't envy your position in this.
Check with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. They have peer supporters who may be able to talk to him about it. There is also an SCI nurse who does regular consults online.
