Hello,

I was wondering why some people can have pain (sometimes extreme) below their level of injury (like chronic pain)? I have heard this is often nerve pain (not sure if that is true).

Also, please let me know if you have any tips for pain like this.

I don't know the why but all you can do is try and suppress the pain with meds and stuff. Some seem to use cannabis oil but I have never tried this . I use a mix of basic pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs plus a nerve suppression drug Gabapentin. I also have spinal cord stimulator implant that's a bit like a tens machine on the inside. It's high frequency so I don't feel any sensation from it. Good luck with finding what helps for you.

not sure what answer you are hoping for and your question is quite vague, please add info and we could help u better. more detail on level of injury and other injury details. I' a quad so get pain everywhere, even below injury.

I think if you have pain below the break, its because the break wasn't complete and there are still crazy pathways active.

In my case (T-5 complete), my pain is right at the break line. I was told by my neurologist that it is resulting from my nervous system trying to repair itself. I have no pain below the break, although I do have significant spasticity and often feel like low level electricity is shooting down my legs.

Is this what you mean??

Sorry everyone... I have been quite busy lately. Yes, that is kind of what I mean- I don't mean I feel pain from things such as running my legs into a wall (which would cause a person without a spinal cord injury to feel pain). The best way to describe my pain (that occurs below my level of injury), is that it feels like my legs are being electrocuted, burned, twisted, and stabbed all at the same time. Nothing that I have tried to so far has made a dent on the pain.
