It’s happened again. A sore on one “butt cheek”. I’ve used aloe leaf and Lugol’s iodine previously, always with very good success. But somehow this sore (though small in diameter) was deeper than the others had been by the time I discovered its presence. In fact, I think that a bolt on my new wheelchair may have initially caused the sore during a “transfer”, rather than actual pressure. But once it’s there, it’s there, and pressure on it becomes the enemy. My beloved frozen slices of aloe leaf have now gotten me out of danger and on the road to recovery, but I think that the light scaring from previous bouts with sores (especially in the hospital and nursing homes) are slowing my healing process this time. I searched the internet and found something I like the looks of,...and were its price something like $50, rather than $389.99, they would already have my money.
Vintage I picked up a air mattress on Amazon by drive medical.it alternates air all night for less than 50.00 I have had mine 4 years now. I had an injury last year on hip/butt, and I cannot sleep on my stomach. This allowed me to lay on it and not Make the sore worse.
Sounds good, lavender. Do they still sell your model? Or photo please? Link? For me, worse yet, my mattress is 3 years old and has become caved in right where my butt settles. So, that makes getting off the sore more difficult. And I can’t sleep on my stomach either. If I were to get turned face down, I would wake up suffocating and in a terrible panic.
Also, Lavender. I’ve used up some of my crucial oils. Could I put in another order through you for DoTerra products? Was it $100 to get free shipping? Or was it $150?
Vintage, search Amazon for drive medical bed. I got the one that is 43.00. It is adjustable from very soft to firm. I will text you later about the oils
Vintage, I'm really concerned about your pressure sore. I don't think herbs are going to cure this one. If it's gone deep, you may need hospital treatment. You cannot leave it to fester and get worse. It needs sorting with the correct medical attention
Thanks, mikeq. It’s not festering. I had some bad days, but my trusty zapper (SyncroZap) kills bacteria and infection. Plus, hospitals might take my zapper away from me. I was out of sea kelp (natural iodine), my aide had quit, I was out of large diapers,...only had skimpy (Ou-la-la) freebies from a friend in a nursing home), and I was out of waterproof bandages. My neighbor, who usually comes through for me, had gone to Florida to visit relatives. I felt pretty sorry for myself. But I had sliced, frozen, aloe vera leaf peel in my freezer. Surgical tape to stick the aloe leaf on my butt. I frequently changed the inadequate diapers, despite feeling like I had one foot in the grave,...and I only “have” one foot, so that in itself shows how dire the situation was. And I rejoiced that I had an unlimited supply of small glass bottles of high quality apple juice, stored beside my bed. Mostly, I wished that I could lie on my back and not have to be constantly turning myself, hence the air pillow search. (Thanks lavender, I’ll have one for next time.) Mikeq, doctors have repeatedly failed me in their treatment, and worse yet, dealing with the whole medical system is fraught with dangers. I may have a scar this time, but won’t need surgery.
P.S. I had misspelled “fraught” originally, asked the computer to check it, and the computer was totally ignorant of the word! Not a bit of help! I had spelled it “frought”, just one letter off, yet the computer sat there and looked around like nothing was wrong. But try to write a sentence in Spanish and the computer goes all “politically correct” on me.
vintage , Sorry hear you have a sore. If its any use to you I use a Quatro Plus Alternating Air Mattress, that was recommended by my rehab centre here. Im quiet thin so they say its high dependency. I also use a Roho cushion. I have had a sore few years ago but not from pressure more friction & sheering as everything I do I tend to lean to one side to account for my balance. The advice I was given was take no chances & stay off it till its healed. We all know they can appear small outside but can be more complex inside. Wish you the best Vintage.
Thanks, ted303. I’m lopsided, too. I’m missing one leg, above the knee. What makes you lean to one side? I have a Rojo cushion, too. Before the cushion was when the worst damage was suffered. The “system” wouldn’t take care of me, yet the nursing home took all my money except $60 a month. And, the same as you, I think friction and sheering were more responsible than “pressure”. But once the sore exists, any pressure becomes dire. Thanks for the sympathy. I’ll look into Quarto Plus Alternating Air Mattress, as I haven’t yet bought the one suggested by Lavender.
