I have noticed since my injury, whenever I get sick, my spasms increase dramatically. I have an upper respiratory infection right now and I don't think I've ever had spasms this much and this painful. I think we all know that UTIs cause increased spasms, but other infections/viruses do for me too. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this, and if we can figure out why. I'm a why person. Even if it's useless to know why, I still want to know!
Firstly, sorry to hear you arent feeling well ....
Our brain really tries to figure out how to help us..it gets very confused when signals to nerves are interrupted and it cannot give us a clear indication of certain problems that are occuring within our bodies.
So the way i see it is that it goes into overdrive slightly and creates these spasms as an indication for us that something, somewhere in our body is wrong....its the only way in some cases when there is nerve damage that it can tell us.
Once the infection settles, so will your spasms..im sorry if this isnt the technical explanation and someone else may be able to explain it better than i have..so please jump in members with your opinion on this
Hey Knight, I'm really sorry to hear that! Like you've said, I know that spasms increase with urinary tract infections but I didn't know it applied to other infections as we'll. I'm also a curious/why person so no worries, I understand you I'll do some reading into it, I'm curious now too!
I forgot to mention that I can't walk while I'm sick. When I try to walk, my legs seem to get the messages backwards and I'm left with my legs crossed in a pile on the floor! I found it comical while I was at physical therapy a week ago, however, it probably wouldn't be very funny if I got hurt. (That's why i don't attempt walking unless I have a spotter.)
Anyways, my theory on this would be that because I'm sick, my body is focusing only on fighting the infection and is only keeping required functionality. Walking is not required for my day-to-day living, so it turns it off.
Knight, that's a good way of seeing it and it could very well be true! Being ill really does take a lot out of the body so it's possible that the body stores the energy to fight off the illness. Oh it's good that you're not trying to walk on your own, the last thing you need is getting injured and limiting your recovery!
Hi hope your feeling better soon Knight, nothing worse than feeling crook with everything else we have to put up with. Get well soon, you have to get new axels and test those new tyres out.
I have been diagnosed with bronchitis, and am taking a Z Pak (Azithromycin) and Benzonatate. Hopefully I will get better soon. I am waiting for the Benzo stuff to kick in and kill my cough. I usually use codeine cough syrup when I'm sick, but my regular doctor wasn't available today. Over the counter cough syrup triggers my AD.

Aww damn, i hope they kick in soon and you can start feeling better... remember, plenty of rest, drink lots and eat healthy food.. I hope you have someone around who can come and give you some TLC..
Hey Knight sorry to her your not feeling well. Its been my experience that since my injury all the symptoms of any illness are amplified. If a cold is coming on I can feel spasms and nerve pain twice as much as normal. It seems any illness coming on communicates to me through increased spasms and nerve pain. Its like learning a new language and new signals that you have to learn to tune into. Not a pleasant experience but its part of the circus. Hope your feeling better soon!!

Woah, that's not good at all! Take care of yourself Knight, I hope you recover soon as well!

I know what you mean tbone57, whenever I feel a UTI coming I get tons of spasms and my autonomic dysreflexia (AD) gets worse!
