It has been a while since I've posted. I hope you've all been well! I've been busy with University and haven't had my time on my plate lately. I'm conducting some research for a University project I'm working on and I'd love to get some feedback from those of you who previously or currently drive or who would like to drive. If you have 10-15 mins to spare, please fill out this Google survey/form for your chance to win 1 of 5 Amazon gift cards worth $20!
Thanks you two! I just completed all my exams for the semester on Friday and I have a little bit of time off until the start of my next semester in early January so I'll be visiting here a little more often!
Glad to hear you are doing well. As much as I would like to drive, again. I do not really believe it is in the cards for me. Good luck, though.
Thank you! Just out of curiosity, why don't you think you can/will drive again? Is there a financial restriction? Physical restriction or other? If you're more comfortable responding privately, feel free to send me a private message!
DJ, how did it go for the students who tried to figure out new contraptions for us SCI folks?
They're taking that info to do more homework on and if there is a big need for those ideas in the SCI/disability world, they're going to start working on it!
Of late, I’ve really needed pull-down cabinets. At $500 apiece, it’s “not happening” for me. But if there were more demand, or if the government would pay for it, these could become affordable and would make life much better for sci folks. See photo.
It would be so nice to drive again. But not going to happen for me. Unless someone develops voice or head or eye controls.

DJ, I play piano. Well, i used to play piano. Yes, my hands still work just fine for the keyboard, but without the sustain pedal, which is operated by one’s foot, music just isn’t the same. In Germany, (those clever Germans!) they have developed a device to allow paraplegic pianists to operate the sustain pedal. See link. www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/10/081024103211.htm
And they are working to make even more improvements.
Here’s my feelings on innovations to help sci folks play music... We need to be able to play music, if at all possible. Music is beautiful. Learning to play music gives a sense of accomplishment. Learning music can lead to having a money-earning profession. Being able to play music opens the door to becoming a composer. Playing music relieves boredom. Sci people who play music using adaptive equipment are not endangering anyone on the road.

DJ, First off financial constraints and also my physical limitations would make it extremely difficult. I have very limited movement of my head and that is about all of my movement, other than involuntary spasms.
taanshi79, I don't know how long it will be before it becomes available, there is a company owned by Elon Musk called Neural-link. They plan to make neural implants, enabling you to be able to use a phone or computer by thinking about it. It may be a while off but I think they could make adaptive inputs to operate a vehicle.
