I am an engineering student at FSU college of engineering and I have been tasked with creating a device that helps paraplegics use the computer. For this project it is important that my group knows what is on the market currently so we can focus on how to improve it. If any of you wonderful people would like to take the time to answer these questions or give any feedback it would be greatly appreciated !
1: What is the best tool on the market to assist with the use of a computer? 2: Have you purchased any tools to help with the use of a computer? 3: what is your favorite tool that helps you go about your day to day business?
Thank you! it has been difficult for my group to receive feedback for our design phase. If you reply I will be sure to keep you updated on how the design process is going!
I don't have any "best tool" for using my computer. I was given a lovely Dell laptop computer, but I keep in on standby, and mostly use tablets. The computer is heavy on my lap. I have to lean over too far if I put it on the edge of the bed. And I don't have a table for it in the crowded space where I live. I think that what might help would be a small pedestal-type holder for the computer. Maybe it could be made so that it clamps onto the foot of the bed, or onto the edge of a dining room table, but is raised a little higher than the table, so that it is (or can be positioned) higher than the arms of my wheelchair. And, that it could be repositioned easily, so that it could be pulled in front of my wheelchair (as you would some desk lamps), but if the doorbell rings, I could push it to one side (or push it back toward the table) and quickly roll away from it, to go to the door. The concept of a stationary "desk" dedicated to a computer doesn't work for me, due to my space being full of wheelchairs, diapers, chucks, grabbers, vitamins, TV, fully loaded bedside table, and water bottles. If the little floating table had a way to secure the computer, so it can't fall off, that would be nice, too.
I'm the moderator on a very active YouTube channel, so my life does revolve around my computer. Thanks for coming here and asking!
