I’m writing to see if you can shed any light on my husband situation. He has Heterotopic ossification of the hip and Lumbar-sacral area. He has had 12 cc’s of rhBMP~2 used in my 2014 surgery and ever since then his life has been a nightmare especially these last two years due to Heterotopic Ossification. For those of you that are unfamiliar with it here is the definition;
“Heterotopic ossification occurs when the body gets signals mixed up, and bone cells begin to create new bone outside of the normal skeleton. The body constantly makes new bone to replace bone within the skeleton. When fractures occur in the bone, new bone is formed to heal the damaged bone.”
He had a massive infection in January 2020 and July 2020 and now he has these masses on his Iliac hip bone and from L1 to Sacrum about 3 masses on the right side and two on the left.
He literally is in pain 24/7 and spends 21 out of 24 hours in bed and what is even worse is that his whole life is built around fitness so mentally he is devastated and is running out of mental strength and patients to try and find a doctor that will either see him in person or is willing to work on him.
So if you have ANY information I would greatly appreciate it. Not many understand Heterotopic Ossificiation and the severity that is causes in someone life.
He has these masses that are getting harder and bigger and they have entrapped nerves so he is in constant pain and has lost about 80% strength in his right leg and now he is starting to feel loss of strength in his left left. There is no way someone can be expected to live like that there has to be a way of removing the growth and then hopefully putting him on something to prevent it from growing back.
He also has 3 artificial disk in his low back all where the bone growth has occurred. I just need a knowledgeable doctor that will look at him and feel his back, pain pills haven’t been the answer and it’s getting worse.
