There is no reason to sit back and feel sorry for myself,. At 66 I can see the end is near. Maybe another 10 years or so. I plan to do as much as I can. As much as I am able to. Life is too short. It makes me feel good when I see others in wheel chairs or using walkers or crutches going out to daily chores or enjoying life.
Good man bensan....make the most of every day...its so very important to stay positive.....People with this do still enjoy life.....i love life..mostly..its still a joy ...and who knows...you might be one of those 'creaking gates' that go on forever lol...till you are 100!!
I had sciatic pain on and off for a few years and finally my GP referred me to a neurosurgeon. After having an MRI I was diagnosed with a herniated disc at L4/5 S1. The neurosurgeon was hesitant to operate and referred me to pain clinic, where I received 3 lots of nerve blocks. These worked for a short period. So I continued taking pain medication to try live a normal life until 31st August 2012. I was walking to the train station after finishing work and I had unbearable left leg pain. That night it got worse. The next day I went to my GP where I was quickly sent to hospital to be admitted as I was now numb in my saddle area and left leg. This caused severe urine retention. unfortunately it was a Friday and MRI was unavailable until Monday. I was pumped full of OxyContin, dickofenac, kapake, and also cathereised. I was moved wards 3 times over the weekend, resulting in the X-ray department unable to ind me for my MRI on Monday. MRI was done on Tuesday which showed the disc protruding. I was then taken by ambulance to another hospital to have surgery. This wax performed the ext day, which was out with the expected 48 hours to Akers sure no permanent damage. i am now left with numbness on the left hand side saddle area and left leg. I was released the day after surgery and went home to recuperate. At home I didn't get better, I got worse. Resulting in 4 admissions to hospital due to vomiting and dehydration. No one knew why, finally 10 months later I was then diagnosed with discitis. Now 10 weeks later and 8 weeks of antibiotics I still have these symptoms and no sign of improvement. Has anyone had anything like this?
Hi..... :welcome: and im so sorry for what you have gone through....it seems that this similar lack of responsibility by the medical profession is happening too often.
My first advice is that you go to your doctor and ask them for a referral to your nearest spinal injuries unit. The unit can then assess your needs and decide if you need rehab and/or help with a b and b programme.
Are you left with remaining probs other than the numbness.
I was operated on 3 weeks later than i should have been and im now suing my docs. I will link you a thread that contains info on medical negligence and CES.
How are my fellow CES member doing? I was at a SCI support group meeting at our local rehab hospital this week,. We are planning a day at a lake nearby next month One of the members (Not CES) has a kayak with outriggers he is bringing along for us to ride in. I have not been in a kayak for 40 years, I hope I can propel it.
Welcome to the forum mustang! :welcome: I'm sorry to hear about all your complications, you've been through a lot and now it's time to start recovery. I hope you start recovering soon and well and be sure to keep up updated with your recovery! I hope you decide to stay here and I'm looking forward to seeing you around the forum
bensan, that's great! It sounds like you'll have lots of fun and it'd be a great thing to do again after all those years! Have fun and let us know how it goes!
Good morning everyone. Well, it is morning here. Will the summer weather ever break. I am looking forward to cooler temps and less humidity. When the leaves on the trees turn from green to their fall bright colors and the breeze picks up, I know why I love living in Pennsylvania. Fall is such a lovely time of year
Good morning to you too bensan! It's really humid and hot her at the moment too. I'm not looking forward to winter but I hope we'll have a cool but not cold summer & fall
Wow i frequent this forum so much yet i missed this thread. i had put aside my leg and hip braces , after i stopped going to physio, i felt physio's where not doing much and i had not achieved much too. on viewing the internet i have seen t11 completes ASIA A ambulating with leg braces, a frame or crutches. one must work his/her way onto crutches starting with the parallel bars, the frame and then onto crutches. i feel i am really out of shape not doing much, i have just hired out a good frame which will come tomorrow, i will again start using the hip and leg braces, even if only i can be able to stand in them would be good, the rest is a bonus. i will post pic when the frame arrives. I must be realistic, my goal is to be able to ambulate at home. a great work out too If any of you can post video or pic of ambulating or walking it would be nice to review.
Wow..delboy, im suprised too...its our busiest thread lol....ah well you must have had other matters to mind maybe ..im looking forward to the pics.!....it will be a great workout!
bensan, fall is such a lovely time..this may sound strange but i can smell autumn on its way in the air..it changes at this time of year and even on a warm day i can feel a slight autumnal feel to the air.
