wheelchair question

Hi, I've been using a manual wheelchair for 25 years and was told I needed a power wheelchair. I'm hesitant and have been wondering why I am hesitant as using a power wheelchair would make my life easier.... can I ask what you guys think of power wheelchairs? Do you think using a power assist, like a Smartdrive would be just as good? Thanks and big hello from New Zealand :-)
