I've never heard of a Ditropan patch, how does it work?
It is a 36mg patch that you wear for 4 days and nights and it delivers 3.9mg each day. So far, it works OK, except while drinking. I usually take 15-20mg of oxybutynin each day, so the patch doesn't deliver that much at all.
Anyone know of any urinary incontinence pads that aren't so bulky? Do they even make thin ones? I've tried Tena, Poise, and the Walmart off-brand called Options, and they're all so thick! I only use the moderate level ones because I only have stress incontinence when I don't have a UTI.
I've tried period pads too, and those do not catch any pee! The pee just seems to slide off them.
If that's the cure to all your problems for however long it lasts, why not?! I personally have been given the option to inject Botox in my bladder and although it may make a few things easier, I rejected it. I don't like having any kind of foreign/unnatural procedures done to myself no matter how minor it is. I've done enough damage to myself so I don't want to do anymore. That's not to say that the Botox is bad, it's just my personal opinion
That's exactly my opinion too DJ. no foreign intrusions Personally i take 3 oxy 5mg pills morning, noon and evening, only side effect is a dry mouth, since i lecture full time the only drink i need is a water bottle everywhere i go. SCI needs a discipled life too, meaning i do not drink any alcohol or beer which i never liked so no prob and intermit cath 5 times a day at the same time to the minute every time. The only problem is the dusty environment of construction sites which give me culture leaks from time to time. It is the only meds i take.As to the heavy pins and needle effect i get in my legs, no pills but self mind conditioning to acceptance is a much better and cheaper form of relief. i feel it more at night time because i am more aware of it, during the day my mind is focused on work so i do not feel it that much due to the perception level. My doctor explained it very well comparing it to noise levels, in a football stadium the noise does not bother you as it is the high level perception norm but people whispering behind you in a class lecture irritates as it is attributed to low tolerance perception. Sorry the latter off topic but nice info i hope.
delboy, it's important that we keep drinking so maybe the dry mouth is a good thing! Glad to hear that you're staying away from the alcohol as well.
A construction site is definitely not the idea place to do a catheter in but you've got no other options really. It's good that you don't get UTI's too often.
Don't want to derail this thread but i have a dream too. I have taken my young nephew whom has finished high school to visit my own collage campus in order to show him the world of construction courses we offer to students. I am the last of my family whom is knowledgeable about the building environment on a professional level. I see all the traits in this young lad of entrepreneurship, leadership, good communication and best of all motivation. His dad (my sisters husband) is also an established build contractor which helps a lot but not at all technical. Alas my own daughter is not interested in construction, my accident has not scored points either. I really wish he opts to choose our collage and work his way up form a diploma in building services, quantity surveying, architect assistant to a warranted architect. Its a long long road but very rewarding. He was really taken aback in awe when i showed him ACAD design drawings plotted by my own students on A1 And A2 paper. Oh God I wished so much i had a son. One good thing is that my extended family all live near me and we are very very close and on good terms. All i can say is a big go to hell to SCI and its associated problems and welcome to feasible dreams
OK, guys, I've got a big dilemma. I had a UTI when I got our of the hospital and it has been treated and resolved. My urine test yesterday showed no bacteria in my bladder, yet, every night, I am peeing the bed. I am sleeping through the night, but I don't understand why this is happening. I thought it was happening because of the UTI, but I don't have one anymore and it just happened again. Maybe I'm sleeping too hard and not feeling my bladder getting full. When I woke up and my chuck was soaked with about a 7" diameter of urine, I went and cathed, and there was still almost 600mL in there! Maybe I should set an alarm half way through the night? I don't know. I didn't go to sleep until 4:00am this morning, and got up at 9:00am covered in pee. That's an hour less than I cath regularly. Maybe my Ditropan isn't working properly anymore? What if the Foley they had in in the hospital did damage-- the first time the balloon was filled, it only had 6mL in it (supposed to have 10) and it kept getting stuck right at my bladder sphincter. What is going on?! I feel like crying!
I don't know if this is any help to anyone but after my accident and now having BSS. I have been give a multitude of different medication that just sedated me making me more prone to falling over yet didn't do much for the pain or control my bladder suddenly telling me that I had to find a tolilet. I would go out and within no time need to find a toilet, and told by a physio that I should plan my days out so I am alway with in reach of a toilet which I found a bit rediculas. I was then given a drug called LAMOTRIGINE by my doctor to try which I had to first take 25mg and over a period of time increase it up to 100mg.
Looking up up this drug on the internet many sites said it could be quite dangerous and give you a Stephen Johnson syndrome due to an allergic reaction. I took the 25mg for two weeks with an inprovement in have to suddenly go to the toilet but on increasing it to 50mg I started to have a reaction to it developing a rash on my chest. I then went back to just taking 25mg at night before going to bed. This I have found has controlled the sudden nead to rush to the toilet and I am able to most of the time go all night without having to keep getting up. It hasn't in anyway stopped the burning nerve pain or the leg spasms but has made life a bit more tolerable.
May be several of you have tried this drug with Little effect but it seems to have worked for me somewhat. I hope this information may help some of you out there.
Knight....it may be an idea to keep a record for a few days of your fluid intake and the amounts you are cathing. Check you are not drinking too much after maybe two hours before you sleep but then drinking plenty during the day. Catheter just before sleeping and def set you alarm ...and see how you go.

I'm with Lara. Her advice is the same they gave me. I still have to get up once during the night. And I cath just before I go to bed. If I don't it's about every two hours.
I didn't have a problem last night, thank goodness. I'm thinking it was just stress and sleeping too hard. I have been staying hydrated-- I have an app on my phone called "Waterbalance" where I can track all the things I drink in a day. I also figured out that the night of the bedwetting, I had missed my mid-day Ditropan because somehow the alarm I have set on my phone got turned off. Probably thanks to a furball of mine since his paws work on the touchscreen. I need to find a "hat" I can put on the toilet so I can measure. Maybe next time I go to the clinic I can snag one from them. I have been guessing, since I just cath directly into the toilet. If I find an app about bladder maintenance, I will link it here for you guys.

I personally want the mitro procedure when my my uretha and bladder start failing me. I'm sure that will be soon since I'm over 20 years post injury and I do the crede method to empty my bladder. Catching just didn't work for me very well and i had so many uti's with it. I haven't had any uti's in years once I went back to crede. Mitro will be convenient once the initial healing is over from the surgery. Several of my SCI friends have it and it has been life changing for them.

Knight..im going to send you the movacol and il send some bags too on monday if they will fit with your catheters. Which catheters are you using? Here is the bag...will it be of any use to you?
Lαrα I use 14 french Cure catheters with a funnel end. Not sure if the bags work. I would love nothing more to try the Coloplast compact for women forever, but they would never send me a sample.
