Hello all, how long does it normally take you to get the results of your urine sample back? I'm starting to get really frustrated with the system but I think it's particularly where I'm sending the urine to get cultured. It's at a pretty big clinic but I'm going to have to try else where. I had a feeling that I'm getting/have a urinary tract infection about 3 and a half weeks ago. The result came as negative so I sent in another one because I knew there was an infection! The second urine sample sent never came back with a result so last week I sent another one and there were no results for that as well. I sent 3 urine samples in 3 weeks and 1 of the results were wrong and two went MIA
I'm going to have to ask my doctor to prescribe a random antibiotic and hope it works because the infection had gotten much worse.
The bloody nonsense we have to put up with is unbelievable, I hope your ok DJ
Thanks Butiki, it just takes longer to urinate (too much resistance when my body tries to urinate) which means my autonomic dysreflexia lasts longer & is more intense. I also have more spasms at night so it's quite annoying!

DJ, this isnt good at all ............what you need to do is take an additional urine sample to the docs along with the one that is being cultured, clearly labelled with your name etc and date them. Ask the doc to dip test the additional one and if there is infection ask to be started on an anti biotic, in the meantime the samples can be cultured which takes up to 3 days .
Here in the UK the local doc will dip test there and then, it takes literally seconds to identify an infection.
You can then be given an anti biotic that is appropriate, often results come back here in the UK within 5 days.
Also if your sample is not sent to the docs after approx one hour it should be refrigerated...it can be refrigerated for up to 48 hours.
I know ive mentioned this before because of the frequency of your infections but you do need to address this DJ and look at either takin a daily tablet or cathing more? You cant have a lifetime of these infections,....seriously

Thanks Lαrα, it's certainly no good! I collect the urine when I catheterize in the morning and store it in the fridge immediately before bringing it to the lab (3-4 hours). The lab analyzes it then sends the report to my doctor. I was told it should take no more that 72 hours but 2 urine samples and 2 weeks later, still nothing
I guess I could try taking a daily low dose antibiotic. It's not ideal but I'll take it over to more intermittent catheterizations!
DJ, i think its definitely time to look at this option especially as you have sometimes suffered quite badly with AD's with your infections. Its so important to manage your health and reduce the risk of additional health risks and this way you are managing more than one problem.
You will hate me saying this but im going to anyway.....if this was a new plug in for a feature for the forum or a technical issue then you would be on the job prompto and yet this is your health mister ....and you still havent sorted this yet.
Think about it ..please
Of course im only being selfish..i dont want you ever out of action and leave all the work to me

I know I know, I guess I'll give it a try but first I need to make sure I get rid of this UTI completely!
