Hello all, I did my first bladder flush a couple days ago after almost 2 years! The catheter I have to use for the flush is slightly thicker than my regular catheter so it really wasn't a good feeling. I think I'm going to do a bladder flush once a week and see if it helps with my urinary tract infections. I'm fighting off a pretty bad infection at the moment so once this clears I hope it stays clear!
I use normal Saline to flush my bladder and don't add anything else to it. If I don't find that the Saline works, I'll try some Puracyn & Vetericyn suggested here.
Doesn't sound like much fun DJ, do you or your Doctors know why you keep getting these UTI's ? I consider myself very lucky as I've only had one since my injury and I was still in rehab with a in dwelling catheter when I got it. Good luck with it mate
Butiki, I really don't know why but I suspect that it's due to residual urine in the bladder even after voiding. I guess it allows bacteria to grow and ideally I should catheterize more frequently but I can't because of my sensation.
Hopefully DJ you will make a decision on additional catheterizing or the daily anti biotic now? Seriously...i know i keep mentioning and bringing this up but you do need to look after your bladder...
You are the perfect role model as someone who does everything they already can to help prevent infections..you drink fresh water all day/evening, you dont drink tea and coffee and you take cranberry tablets...
Could you not manage one extra cathing? I know its uncomfortable but if not then its the anti biotic route
So mister....decision time....or il ask you every day now until you sort something out, you know how annoying that could get lol
Well I did catheterize 3 times a day for 2 months a few months ago and noticed no difference so I think I'm going to have to take a daily antibiotic Lαrα

Ah yes, sooo its the daily med DJ...? the dose is very low i believe anyway...
saline is not strong enough to irrigate with my wife finds .... she does it with a g-solution which is more acidic .... also she takes 1000mg of C to keep the system acidic as well and fight infections. PM nikita and she will tell you the exact name.

I was pretty sure that you did DJ, but it's like if an electrical appliance is not working I always check that it's plugged in and turned on, I imagine it would be very painful and difficult to cath without any lube
