I have a patent using GPS to determine location and along with a speed limit database notify the driver or control the speed of the vehicle to prevent exceeding the speed limit.
All you people and your fancy stuff. Everyone thinks I'm weird because I don't have auto-start. Heck, I still have to put my key in the door to unlock my vehicles. (I own 2 vehicles-- my Explorer and a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 with a 2.4 DOHC.) I like to keep things simple. The less technology you have in a vehicle, the less things there are to have to fix later!

Makes sense. Technology simplfies things in ways but it's also more expensive. My key fob is detectable by the car. I keep it in my purse and don't have to get it out again because the door unlocks when I touch the handle. No key needed, simple! On the other hand if you lose the damn key fob it will cost you $300 for a new one. Luckily I had a spare when I lost it in another city but I had to replace the back up key fob. I nearly pissed myself when Toyota told me how much it cost. Overall I do enjoy the technology involved with blue tooth and the key fob though.
That's true Knight, the simple you keep things the less problems you'll encounter but as offroaderswife has said, the way things are simplified is extremely convenient! Other than losing things like keys, etc, I think technology is a bit more reliable these days than it was in the past

I beg to differ... lol I guess I'm just not one for all the fancy stuff in vehicles. Why do you need a video player in your car? You shouldn't be watching a movie if you're driving! lol. I do, however, love my music, which is why I have 2 12" subs, a 1000 watt amp, and a nice deck in my Explorer. I shake other people's vehicles Technology isn't for everybody.

Interesting points and valid though i will add this now..especially as this topic has turned into a discussion.
Firstly.....DJ was agreeing with you..to a point....also..compared to some, you are high functioning for a para. If you had less function or were a quad you would welcome the technology that typically comes with a newer car.
Im not materialistic in any way and i dont know my cars at all but if i had the choice i would own a smart looking one that had comfortable adaptions..
I do agree that older cars are easier to maintain and repair....if you are mechanically minded then a car' manual and a good parts shop is all you need. For something new this is not the same scenario...More often than not, even if one can repair themselves they would be faced with needing a diagnostic test etc.
The music thing i totally agree with as i love music too.... but a system that you talk of can go in an old or new car..

I love my music too Knight and I installed subs in our car (Cadillac) which already had a small factory sub! For our new van it has a really nice stock sound system will plenty of bass but I'll be throwing in subs sooner or later. The car and the van has a deck with a big screen and although you can watch DVD's with it, we use it only as a GPS. It even has a built in hard drive so instead of having to use a CD or USB stick to play your music, you can download it all to the deck and have it there for ever. Now that's something older systems can't do!

Yeah for sure Lαrα! Having technology that makes life easier is great for everyone but can definitely be appreciated more by people like quadriplegics

I've been battling the new Tech since I decided to come out of the woods. It frustrates me. I'm still learning about all the features on my phone, I may expire before I figure them all out. I keep telling my wife I want to buy a new truck, built in the 70's so I can still work on it. We rely on tech so much nowadays, I feel you have no choice, but to pay, pay, pay. I feel like I'm in some sci-fi movie and I'm now in the collective. I will learn it, to keep up with my wife and daughter, and don't get me wrong, the Internet is incredible. If I need to learn something..tap..tap.. and there it is. But when the zombies attack and the tech no longer works, I'll be ahead of the game being able to live off the land, read a compass, build a fire, trap animals, etc. I still can't imagine I'll last long considering I will have to reuse the same catheter over and over again. But I'll last longer than many who are stuck in the cities with there thumbs up their ears.

I like the safety aspect of technology in vehicles these days. Blue tooth for the phone and music so I don't have to touch my phone. Can answer a call right from my steering wheel. I also enjoy the door unlocking when I touch it so I don't have to dig for my keys. I haven't actually seen my keys in weeks because they are in the bottom of my purse. The back up camera is awesome too. We had a get together at our house and had ice chest, chairs, scooters and bicycles for the kids. The next day when I was leaving the house I just got in my car and started backing out of the garage. I saw a scooter laying behind my car through the backup camera. Was so thankful that the camera was there. The only sucky part was I had to get my chair out again and get the scooter out of my way. My nephew was so happy I didn't run over it. Technology is taking over.
Speed control lets set the speed your traveling at...works great on longer trips where the speed is constant..like the inter state. You don't have use the gas peddle
Also saves you from getting speeding fines! I use it any time I am on the highway and there is not much traffic.
ah, wth... I logged on here today and saw this thread might as well try to post a few pix of my wheels... I don't even know if this will work since i'll try to upload directly from my hard drive....
I rode a stripped down, hopped-up ironhead sportster [harley davidson] pre-crippledom in the mid to late '80s and that was my passion as far as mobility/transport... didn't really like cars...
after becoming a quad, I had to turn my back on ridin' iron and even a trike wasn't a good substitute because you can't lean on 3 wheels into turns and no longer feel the man-machine connection...
so i got into old american cars.... good ol' loud/obnoxious and hopped-up v8 engines is what does it for me - hot rods, kustoms and even some early muscle cars... I don't like pretty much any cars made after 1969 or so, and never really owned any new wheels, except once, a radically modified '99 chevy s-10 pick up... that p/u went straight for modifications from dealership for air ride, full 'walk-through' conversion with permanent bed cap, etc... hated it still, left it totaled on a tree 3 years later and went back to old rides as my daily drivers which were made with real tin not plastic fantastic....
I still have my white b#tch - a rodded '36 Studebaker dictator coupe which I bought back in january '96... I drove a modified '68 oldsmobile cutlass as my daily beater from 2003 to 2011 but sold it and purchased a high end kustom, 4 times magazine feature car [including 'rod & custom' mag], a 60 ford fairlane, after getting a sort of a second lease on life due to a last moment surgery...
unfortunately i only put less than 100 miles on its clock and drove it less than 1 month before some idiot broad tour bus driver plowed into me in nyc as I was parked next to madison square garden waiting for a pal of mine... destroyed my car [and my left elbow too as it was hit by the bus' rear fender] and it took 2 years by the original builder/kustomizer to repair it... this was on december 3, 2011 and I finally just got that fairlane back in june of this year...
haven't snapped any photos of it yet since I got it back [I'm attending a 3 day car show with both of my rides next week so I might have new pix after that if anyone's interested] so I'm posting a couple of pix of violet b*tch - my fairlane taken before it was destroyed by the tour bus, back in 2011... plus a few of my stude [white b*tch] from last year's car shows [incl. one in my avatar]... and a few of my red b*tch, my previous daily driver '68 cutlass...the latter one had a modified 455 ci engine that dynoed just over 425 hp and over 550 ft/lbs of torque... pretty radical for daily driving and barely got 6 miles per gallon but plenty of rubber burnin' fun even while driving to a store.... };->
let's start with my cutlass, 2 pix taken about 6 months after I bought it, then a few from around 2008...
next is my '36 stude...a photo taken a few months after I bought it in '96... then a few from last year's car shows I went to...
and a few of my '60 kustom fairlane...from 2010 magazine features it was in, one from magazine 2012 mag feature, and a couple from 2011 after I bought it...
I use drive-master push-pull hand controls and 'palm grip' steering wheel hand grip device, on all my cars btw...
the clincher - no power steering on neither my stude nor fairlane...it's hell to parallel park those cars for a quad like me since they're much heavier than modern cars hehe... no cruise control, or any electronic gizmos/devices, don't need 'em... no seat belts.... best sound system there is - courtesy of modified v8 through headers and open pipes, no better soundtrack when hitting the open road... and a regular key starts both....
hope these photos will upload after spending all this time/effort typing the above.... I don't frequent any forums much these days but if anyone here digs old tin made in usa you might enjoy these....
