Wow, I would love to be able to do that. I once almost fell flat on my face coming out of a store. I didn't do a wheelie first. Actually I have never attempted that. I just lean as far back as I can and hope for the best.

The first time I went grocery shopping in my chair, I came out with a half-full cart and went down the curb cut with left hand on chair and right hand on cart. Totally lost control and was heading toward my own car which I thought I would ram--ARRRRGGGGHHHH! But an "angel" in the form of a quick moving 12yo caught me and saved the day! I need to work on my wheelies in my TiLite--they weren't even possible in my old clunker. But in the runaway situation, a one-handed wheelie wouldn't have helped!

Wavewolf, you remind me of my first grocery shopping trip! What a day! I hadn't gone shopping on my own in 11 months, I had my brand new adapted Mazda 5, so I park and head in. I was so happy to be shopping on my own that I started to go crazy and buy my favorite orange juice (3-4 containers), the concentrated (and super expensive) cranberry juice (3-4 bottles), canned goods... No I don't live in the middle of nowhere, I have two IGA's and a Metro within 10 km of my house. So I get out with my basket full of heavy stuff and barely manage to get all into my trunk but I was unable to close the back door or trunk and a kind man happened to pass so he reached up and kindly closed it for me and took off with my empty basket. I needed gas and I was supposed to check which side the hole was on to tank up, needless to say I forgot and was on the wrong side so had to turn around once at the gas station. Then I had to search high and low for the lever to unlock my little door. The attendant found it at the same time as me! OK, so I finally make it home with a full tank of gas and a ton of groceries to bring in the house. So I thought I'd be smart and back into my yard so I wouldn't have to wheel as much on the gravel in my yard. So I get out of the car and head towards the trunk only to notice that I couldn't squeeze between the ramp into the house and the car. So back into the car I go to advance the car about 10 feet. I get transferred back onto the seat that I transfer onto between my car and the wheelchair only to notice that I had forgotten to bring the chair with me so it is 10 feet away. My arms aren't long enough, and I can't walk. Grrr So I figure I have a few choices: --cry --call my brother who lives next door to come get the w/c for me --get back in the car, back up, grab the w/c and advance 10 feet again and get back out of the car. Whew
Well I chose the third option after calling my brother and there was no answer. I got all the bags brought in, hanging them off the back handles or on my knees, got most put away by the time my husband arrived home from work where I announced that I was too pooped to make supper, that I was going to go lie down a bit.
sherry, Your story had me in stitches!!! I walk some, and have gotten myself into that sort of situation where I am separated from either my canes or chair, and have once rolled on the ground to get safety back to mobility!!!
