I have terrible problems with my feet swelling. I take a tablet called Frusemide, I take 20mg one day and 40mg the next on alternate days, don't ask me why it's what the doctor told me to do. Anyway my chemist closed over the Christmas new year break and I didn't know. And guess what I ran out of, Frusemide of course. the chemist reopened on Monday so I went there first thing on Monday morning to fill my Frusemide script and guess what, the bloody repeats had run out on the last bottle I got. But thank goodness he gave me my tablets with a script owing, I got it to him this afternoon, so no problem. my feet resembled footballs by now and a very uncomfortable tight feeling that made transferring quite hard. So I took 40mg last night at bedtime and I must have peed at least 2 1/2 letres overnight, and my feet are back to normal now. But 4 days without that tablet was not a good experience.
Oh dear Butiki...so is it sounds like fluid retention causing the problem Do you manage to get your feet up for part of the day? Im quite mindful about this even though my feet dont swell really now anymore.
However...I can get some swelling on my lower legs if im not careful but this is mainly since i had blood clots in my calf and raising them at some part of the day helps with this
Butiki, my feet have been pretty swollen the past few days as well. It's probably because I was in my chair by 10:30am and stay there till 3am in the morning for the past couple days. Do you prop your legs up in bed? I always have a pillow under my ankles to help the blood flow back up and to help keep pressure off my heels.
Frusemide? Butiki does it have any side effects? My ankles swell like crazy on the days that I work. I wear ankle braces on both ankles to keep some of the swelling down, but if Frusemide works for you, I will mention it to my doctor.

Hi kisch5, It can affect the heart apparently, I'm not sure how, thats why my Doctor has me on a low dose, the dose I'm om is working well for me. But as with any drug you need to run it by your health professional first, you need a script for it here in Australia. It will make you pee a lot, I guess thats the only side effect that I do get.

My feet started swelling about the same time my doc increased my Lyrica. So I went down in my dose instead and it has helped the swelling. Hasn't helped the discomfort of the neurophathy, but unitl the shocks return I'll deal with it.
So I guess my point is swelling may also be related to the meds your on. May be worth checking out Butiki. Good Luck
kilg0retr0ut, I had the same effect from Lyrica, but am not taking it any longer.
I found that drinking tea and coffee, which both have diuretic effect, has helped minimize my foot swelling. I make tea weak, 1 bag to quart of water, to limit caffeine intake. And just one mug of espresso in the morning instead of a pot...
Hi guys, my Doctor says that my feet swell simply durn to fluid retention because of lack of use. He has assured me that none of my meds cause it, and he feels the more I start standing and walking it should subside with time, so fingers crossed. it is not unusual in paras he keeps assuring me, I hope he's right

Now that I am using wheelchair much of the time, I am having similar problem. But my standing and walking must be limited. ANY movement is good, increases circulation to carry off fluids. Also, putting legs up (above heart) for maybe two brief (15 min.) but planned periods a day helps. Do whatever you are able to do safely to exercise legs, even in chair.
I also take furosemide (also known as lasix) 20 mg. twice a day for swelling, as well as reduction of blood pressure. I still have to elevate my legs regularly, or my feet & lower legs get quite big. The only side effect I've ever had is that my urine output goes way up!

I experience quite a bit of feet swelling also. They are pretty normal when I first wake up in the morning but by the evening they are starting to swell. To avoid taking medication I try to prop them up for at least 30 minutes during the mid day but I mostly try to control my sodium intake so that I'm not retaining as much water. Staying active with cardio helps too.
