Hey wickededge,I live in the UK and in general accessibility is reasonable good. The law dictates that public buildings must provide wheelchair access
Some smaller shops tend to not acknowledge the law and have poor access for wheelchairs but then they dont get the custom.
Our land is relatively flat in residential areas so wheeling about isnt too much of a problem. Sometimes flags are uneven which can be annoying but isnt too bad.
I know if i want to go out to a restaurant,a bar, the cinema or general places of interest..etc then i would have no problem with access.

We have poor access, our gov really does not care. To be quite honest.
Having said that, the malls are very wheelchair friendly (Your main malls) The shocking thing some gov buildings have stairs.
When you ask "Do you have a lift" you get someone who says, "Oh it broken sorry" Really not acceptable. Even the public transport is really bad.
Lucky for us in Cape Town we have a Disabled Transport but you have to be registered or you cannot use the service. Very affordable, yet not very reliable, always late at times on pick-ups or drop-off's.
Hey wickededge, I'm from Canada (Toronto) and I think the accessibility is pretty good as well. Some small shops right in downtown Toronto aren't always wheelchair accessible since the buildings are 100+ years old but for the most part, the accessibility is pretty good.
It's a law that all new buildings are made with wheelchair access so that's a good thing
The transportation system for people with disabilities is ok but the timing is very bad, similar to how it is where you live.

Yes that is the thing. Even our Disability Grants are really low...
Give you an example the Disabled home where I live they take 80% we left with next to nothing.
Live your life a 1/4 mile at a time.. nothing more, nothing less!
The accessibility here is good for the most part. The shops downtown aren't always accessible but if I really want to go in, I can usually have an employee help me in. My favorite bar's bathroom is NOT accessible whatsoever. I have to get up out of my wheelchair and "walk" to the stall because my chair won't fit in the door. I will have to contact the owner one more time otherwise I may have to stop going there because my legs go numb and I don't want to fall and break something.
Knight, I've also noticed that it's the bathrooms that are usually not accessible but I don't use them when I'm out because I have a leg bag so it's ok for me

Sometimes I would love to throw a Foley and leg bag on and hit the bars. But with how crazy my transfers and dancing gets, I'd probably burst it!

I have done some traveling in my chair. I have found that in most countries if the place you want to go in accessible, people will help if you just ask. Places in USA are very good in comparison to Ecuador or Jamaica. But go to a small town in northern Wisconsin and I have run into trouble. But again, people always want to help.
God Bless
Andrew
