They did. She told me to get ahold of NDAD after I got a prescription for a new wheelchair. The problem is, I doubt any organization will help me with a $6000 chair when I already own 2. So, as another option, this chair.
Hey guys... So, after looking around for a wheelchair that fulfills all my needs and stays lightweight and looks pretty... other than the TiLite TRA, which has a Base Price of $3,195... I found this: www.colourswheelchair.com/products/prod_razorblade.htm It is made of aluminum, but I went and looked up a study done with titanium vs aluminum wheelchairs, and there was really no difference during daily activities... and aluminum is lighter. Also, with a base price of $2,400, I'm much more likely to get funding for it. Also, it doesn't cost extra money to get it in a color. Thoughts? Advice? Anyone have thoughts on aluminum chairs?
Yes that's true Knight, but I don't wipe all else out, I also have a invacare wheelchair. It's just that I'm not sure of the quality and build, in a great believer in you get what you pat for, that's all.
I have a TiLite AeroX aluminum folding chair. It is as light as most other rigid chairs from other companies. New they can be purchased starting at $1600 with a few options. I couldn't afford another $1000 to get titanium chair that was 2 lbs lighter. I have had the AeroX for almost 2 years. I have not had any issues with the quality or rigidity. Fully assembled with armrests and cushion my chair weighs 36 lbs. A rigid chair would be lighter but not any better functionality wise for me.
TiLite also sells demo chairs on eBay. They usually are like new, or with a few minor scratches. They only sell those with the Buy it now option.

The TiLite demo chairs on eBay are a great deal. Knight, if you have an extended cab truck with doors that open in the middle, you can tilt a folder up and catch the casters, only have to lift a part of the weight to get it in behind the driver seat. I lean on my seat and can flip it in (folded) with one hand. Might give you a nice travel chair.

I have a 1994 Ford Explorer... No nice pick-up truck for me Some day I will buy myself a big truck that I will utilize the hell out of though! And I'm gonna put a lift on the sucker too!!
The fantasy is still there for me, to come in to a lot of money and buy chairs for people. They'd all be Tilite titanium of course ;-)
eBay can be great for chairs. I spent more than a year checking every single day to find a chair with my measurements. I won the auction with less than 30 seconds to go. My advice on bidding and winning is to do the hard thing - figure out the absolute maximum you can pay to the penny and make it your highest bid. Hopefully the sale price is much lower but if you really want the chair and the computers at eBay grab your next bid before the other guy at the last second, you're in. That's how I got my Tilite. Paid a ton for it but more worth it than just about anything I've bought. Actually putting it as the top necessity, it is the best thing I've bought. Outside the food/shelter/wheelchair thing, the engagement ring I bought was the best thing I ever paid for. That was priceless. Wheelchairs unfortunately are not and back in the real world I am planning on getting a Tilite TR3 when I can get the money. Currently I have no idea when that can be. Good thing I have a Tilite and it should last me until I can get a new one. I want the new frame angles on the TR3 but also I have some measurements I need to change. Otherwise, my Tilite TR2 is bulletproof. I'll never plan to buy anything other than Tilite (in titanium).
grommet-- thanks for the tip! I'll hit up eBay tonight and see what I can find.
I have found myself friends and neighbors with a double amputee who prefers to use a wheelchair than his prosthetics because his prosthetics are uncomfortable. He kind of reminds me of myself, actually. Early on after my accident I had pretty good leg function and could have walked with a walker and my AFOs, but my AFOs gave me a pressure sore on my ankle after wearing them for 4 hours! No good. I have lost some function since then due to medical malpractice. Not sure if malpractice is the right word because I'm sure they didn't mean for it to happen, but you know what I mean. At any rate, I have my Q7 being used as a coatrack and I wish Medicaid would allow me to give it away to somebody who needs it because he could really use an ultralightweight wheelchair. It's hard to watch a friend struggle with a big heavy wheelchair when I know I've got one sitting in my living room that would improve his quality of life so much.
