I don't think that Knight can be blamed for the support that she was given by the forum to be fair. At the time we made a conscious decision to do what we could to help- which we would do the same for another member.
Any form of charity and support to a fellow SCI sufferer can only be positive and I personally feel that we should celebrate with her and not judge her circumstances. So, congratulations Knight, your new chair has been a long time coming.
Lara, I'm confused as to how or why Knight was selected for these charitable donations. Did she ask? Was it offered? Where are the records of monies donated? How much has been raised and what happens if donations exceed the cost of the chair? I'm sorry if I appear mean-spirited. That is not my objective. I just think there ought to be more transparency. And there are far more deserving cases. Just take a look at vintage's post. If you cherry pick people to raise funds for, that is favouritism. It is not my business to dictate who gives money to what cause. That is up to the individual. If I'm out of line, I expect people to tell me (I expect to get flamed for this post but I think it needs saying).
I understand where your coming from and I ain’t trying to start any arguments nor am I siding with someone. In my opinion a cause is a cause. Yes some are big some are minor. Take in mind that something minor might be huge for the person. (Again I’m not siding) I was raised on the saying if you don’t speak up no one will here you. I would like to think that the forum would do that for any member. At the end of the day no one forced people to donate, it’s up to you the “donor” to think if it’s worthy or not. As per what was raised, yes it would be nice to see a total. Regarding if there is any money left over, when do you see that in any fundraiser.
Folks, keep in mind that this is a privately owned forum, not a public service accountable to members. Private sites do not "owe" members explanations. That said, I understand why you wish to see some accounting just to reassure yourself the owners of the site are people of good ethics. This is an awkward matter and I believe part of the explanation lies in the date that this thread started. Sites, and the people who run them, mature with experience. Today people would be referred to a Go Fund Me page.
It is important not to castigate people for acts of generosity, and please remember that what made sense in 2014 may not make sense today.
you are so right Garciia. If you don't speak up no one will hear you. I guess I was just airing my thoughts in public. Better out than in
Hey you gotta let it out sometimes lol. If I don’t vent every now and then every comment I make sounds more sarcastic than the last until I explode for no reason lol

Thankyou for the reasoned perspective tetra, on each of your points you are right. Good intentions that were founded on ideals of being a support to someone who was struggling at the time so much with their SCI was the motivation. We were a very young forum with significantly less members than we do now and we did try to help anyone that we could, in any way that we could.
Yes, I do feel that now we would suggest a fundraising platform ( my opinion only of course ) and if we had monies to give to a charitable cause then we would have probably looked at a broader consideration.
In all fairness, Mony did most of the fundraising herself, our contribution will have been only a small portion, after all it took a further 4 years for Mony to achieve the amount that she needed. I know that all options had been explored prior to it coming down to raising funds.
I am happy to know that she now has a wheelchair that helps her to get around in less pain, we all know how injust life can be with SCI so a little justice for someone is a good thing. Remember that Justice is also unbias and she does not discriminate, which is why she is blindfolded.
(I appreciate all the comments- each one is valid )
I finally got my brand new TiLite ZRA on April 17, 2018! I only had to cover about 27% of the cost out-of-pocket, & thanks to DJ and all of you guys here on the forum and especially all the people who donated, part of that cost was taken care of. I already am feeling the difference! No more squeezing my 16" wide hips & butt into a 14" chair (I gained weight ) and the back of this chair is higher & adjustable, so I can actually handle being in the chair for a while. I'll post a photo here soon, once I figure out how to work Tapatalk again!
So, Knight, you got trashed last night. No offense to you personally. Good luck and enjoy yourself. But like I said in my previous post, there are people really struggling here, struggling so hard they cannot afford luxuries like going out and getting trashed on alcohol. You may have trashed any chance of further charitable funds for your chair. I know who I'd rather send my money to.
I didn't force anyone to donate to this funraiser. I believe *every person* should have a wheelchair that's made specifically for them. At the beginning of this fundraiser, I was using a hand-me-down Quickie Ti that was only 14" wide; I need 16" wide.
And so what if I had a few drinks on the weekend here and there? I should be able to get around easily, just like everybody else does, regardless of age, race, shape, abilities, social activities, etc.

Glad to see people being rude continued in my absence. Gods forbid a disabled person ask for help, right? This thread raised $300 towards my TiLite ZRA I got in 2018. Insurance covered most of it, and my out-of-pocket cost was only $1230 after the contributions from this thread.
The people who think others must be perfect to deserve help from them need to look in a mirror.
