Im just curious really to know a little what its like to drive with hand controls. I cant drive...ive had scores of lessons, mostly with my Dad but i never took my test.
Im going to start lessons again as soon as my provisional licence arrives and im wondering if i may actually learn quicker with hand controls...Do we still have gears to change? I was having automatic lessons before because changing gears confused me a little
With hand controls you're definitely going to be using an automatic car but if I were you I would just drive the traditional way. I wish I could drive standard, those are fun!
If you're going to use hand controls you will need a automatic car. It took me about a week to get used to driving with hand controls, after 40 odd years of driving, but now using hand controls is as natural as the traditional way.
There is one hand control I know of that can be used with a manual, but I can't remember the name of it. I never got a chance to learn how to drive a stick shift, but automatics are so much easier anyways! With hand controls, you drive just like before, and if you like, you can still use your feet while they're in. I use TNT Portable Hand Controls, which are available for purchase on Amazon.com for around $300. They can go in any vehicle and work very well. I added a squishy pad onto the accelerator thumb button so it's more comfortable to drive. There's only gas, brake, and steering to worry about, no changing gears. Automatics are so much easier to drive regardless of abilities! I will find you the video and link it, k?
P.S. it took me one hour to learn how to drive with hand controls.
I am glad as a Sci person , I can at least drive. I really enjoy it. I have MPD hand controls and love them. I had others but these work the best for me. I believe their made in Canada. Top quality plus my installer does a great job.
I guess driving is like most things we do in life. You master it after a while. The more you drive the better you become. I have found that I am more cautious of other drivers. I am always looking to make sure I don't get hit.
I built my custom hand controls for about the same price as the TNT controls. Mine work superbly but are not as portable as the TNT controls.
24 years of riding motorcycles made it an easy transition for me.
Lara, You need to get out there and practice. You'll pick it up pretty fast once you have a set of controls that you are comfortable with. The less complicated, the better.
veoma je lako da se vozi sa hand control :-) I remember in a company that we had built in ( Guidosimplex USA ) had a test drive and even then I had a solid driving :-)

mayayo, welcome to the forum. Možete koristiti Google alat za prevođenje, pisanje na svom jeziku i zalijepiti na engleskom ovdje. Radi prilično dobro! Ja ga koristiti često na međunarodnim forumima.
Lαrα, she is right--driving with automatic transmission and hand controls is not difficult. Since your father has not used hand controls, if you can get a few sessions with a trainer who has, this is advisable! There are some tricks in adjusting them correctly and using them most easily and with least fatigue, and choosing what will work best for you. The ones made by Guidosimplex are the type Butiki uses, and they are really elegant if you have full hand function! Since you have not driven before, just take your time to learn and build confidence in increasingly challenging traffic.
