I am pretty excited to do this post because i have had this training as part of my rehabilitation exercise when at my spinal unit . ..It was the most effective part of my rehab and i know for certain that it had an impact on my function and muscle power.
My unit didnt actually have the original unit that so they made their own system using pulleys and ropes....At this point of rehab i was 10 months post injury and as an example, if i was led on my side with my legs positioned together it was impossible for me to raise the top leg away from the one that was next to the bed.
I couldnt turn over in bed without great effort...
Most of this training that i did was therefor working on this. I was laid on my sides and had these pulleys and ropes at different points along my legs from the thigh down.
I know that this had a significant impact on function for me that increased my muscle power in this area and remember, i hadnt moved these muscles for 10 months. If i transferred into a car i had to lift my legs in once i sat on the seat so thats how poor my function was.
Anyways...enough about me..here is the system...It was invented in Norway after 20 years of study and research and on different ranges of people.
Redcord is a Norwegian organization that aims to be the common thread (“den røde tråden” is a Norwegian phrase for this, and it translates to “red cord”) between injury, health and optimal fitness. Many years of research, development and experience serve as the basis for the Redcord Education Program. Neurac® treatment has been developed over many years with the input from medical and therapy professionals in collaboration with an international network of researchers and clinicians.
International guidelines and treatment recommendations for musculoskeletal disorders focus on active treatment. Based on 20 years of experience Neurac is an active and highly effective method treating musculoskeletal ailments. Continual incorporation of available and relevant science makes the Neurac courses attractive and is today delivered in more than 20 countries.
Studies show that pain and/or inactivity can disturb the signals for neuromuscular control. This leads to impaired muscle interaction and decreased strength and quality of movement, also called weak links. As a result some muscles become stressed, strained and painful. The Neurac method focuses on neuromuscular re-education to activate, normalize and strengthen the muscle interaction.
Neurac consists of specially tailored exercises and techniques in Redcord ropes and slings, aiming to restore functional and pain free movement patterns through a high level of neuromuscular stimulation. Redcord Workstation Professional is the only way to perform Neurac treatment. Read more about equipment.
The Neurac method applies high effort without the need for high mechanical load, using key biomechanical principles to optimally enhance muscle activation and function:
Closed Kinetic Chain (body-weight-bearing exercise)
Unsteadiness
Movements in multiple planes
Precise progressions
Pain free movements
