Well Monday last week my PT got me in one of those tall walkers, the ones you rest your forearms on and I " walked" about 5 metres, I didn't get too excited about it because to me it wasn't really walking, but today I " walked" about 15 metres and I felt really proud of myself,I have to watch my feet to keep them straight and not wobbling over to far. I even managed to pull myself up from my wheelchair to the standing position, not a bad effort for someone who had trouble transferring from wheelchair to bed in February. So now the plan is to get me one of those tall walkers for home so i can stand during the day and when ready walk a bit each day as long as someone is with me, the goal is to be safe on the walker by the end of September. But I do keep reminding myself that what I'm doing now is a long long way from really walking.
Look at where you was in February and now...you are getting stronger! You are also within your healing period so you still have improvements to come i feel.
Shortly after my SCI i never imagined that i would be able to walk. When i did with a walker it was un-natural and awkward...i watched my feet all the time. I then moved onto elbow crutches..i still watched my feet and as i got stronger, my gait improved.
Now im 2.5 years on and i still use crutches and watch my feet sometimes but im much more confident and my gait is pretty decent...my feet are still very numb.
Celebrate every step of progress you make..however small...because you are going in the right direction and will improve further...and from chair to standing is a great achievement!
I think that we are too hard on ourselves sometimes but you are getting there...in your own time. This process unfortunately can't be rushed but the effort you put in will pay off so keep up the good work and very well done!!
Butiki that's excellent news!! Like Lαrα said look at what you were like back in February and now but most importantly from last Monday and today. 10 extra meters of walking within one week might not sound like much but it's huge! At this rate you'll be walking on your own in no time so keep your head up and really push yourself because that is some great recovery you're getting and it'll only get better

I feel like you too Butiki. You are a paraplegic right? I can only take a few steps at the moment but im worried that I wont recover much more. Im 13 months into my injury and I was told that ill experience the most recovery within one year.

Butiki, how wonderful! Ilovelisee, it is great that you are walking too. The first step is the most important. I would suggest that you both walk as far as comfortable and take an extra step or two. A half mile starts with one step. 50 feet starts with one step. That's great progress!
And Ilove, you won't necessarily have to recover more to progress more. As you exercise you will be gaining more strength and more ability. Take one more step!
Not really, bowels have been giving me grief. I have stopped physio for the next 2 weeks because of this problem. Hopefully the peristeen system will get me going again.
Oh my, sorry to hear Butiki..... But yes im sure your situation with the bowel issue will improve now so you will be able to get back in tack with that and other things too
