I really can't... I've been having this profile pic for about a month now. And still no feedback!
To clarify:
YES, this is me YES, this is me AFTER the injury What am I doing? Water-skiing! Adapted for para and even tetra plegics!
I have been mentioning this in one of the threads already, don't know which exactly, however I do remember wavewolf getting all hype about it! I guess she's already tried skiing on water and isn't much interesting anymore or am I wrong???
Anyone else tried it??? It's super fun, can't wait to go again!

Every time I look at your avatar I just smile big! I am too sick to even think of being able to do something requiring this outlay of energy right now. Getting to the toilet in time is a major accomplishment, no exaggeration. But when you do it "for us", just makes my heart sing!

Learning to swim is not hard, Lαrα. And you would surely wear a PFD (personal flotation device) for safety--they are reliable if fitted properly. Swimming helps us keep our shape, allows exercise that does not tear down body with weight, and tones skin as well. The exhilaration of skiing on water is just tops, almost as good as surfing a wave. The sheer power and variance of waves--well, those are gifts from God! I encourage you to try in a workshop setting, as Europedude did--safety and confidence in numbers!
This looks awesome. Where was this? And how much balance did it take? Looks like it would take a decent amount at first but it would be easier once you have enough momentum. I'd like to know more about the process whenever you get a chance
The thing is i did learn to swim when i was 11yrs but it was more by force, i hated it. Every week i hid my swim gear so i didnt have to go, i was very creative with my hiding places lol
I live approx 3/4 mile from the beach and a little before this age I went to the beach with friends and thought i could swim just fine ( though i had never had a lesson!).
It was a 'choppy' sea and i struggled and ended up being pulled out by the life guard and swallowed lots of jukky irish sea water
I was pretty much always getting up to something and getting into bother for it but consequently, i have a real fear of water!
I loved swimming but after my injury I don't like it as much. It's been three and a half years since I last went swimming but when I did, I felt cold and tired the rest of the day and I didn't like it. Since it has been so long, I might try again at the beach this summer.

You have plenty of opportunities for trying it in many European countries, on the seaside and also lakes. Take a look at this for example jerseyboy
you have plenty of other videos...
Exactly like you said it, it takes some times and tries at the beginning. The hardest part is starting, once you make it past these first waves and don't sink, you are good to go then you just enjoy the ride ok tricks and curves then also take some practise You are actually quite stable inside. I have seen even some quadriplegics with limited hand function doing it! They just grab the handle somehow between or inside the elbows. The ride itself does take some balance (skill), but as mentioned, you just have to get used to it.
I go swimming once a week at our local rec center and find it amazing. There is a ramp into the hot tub so I can warm up after my swim. The biggest challenge for me was learning to roll from my front to my back. Once I did this, I felt comfortable swimming independently. To get in I roll up to the deep end, put on my brakes and tip in. I think it freaks some people out. It was hard to learn after my injury. I swam a lot before my injury. When I sustained my SCI I was swimming in the ocean. I was face down waiting for 2 minutes before I was rolled over.
You inspired me Kevin.... I was born a beach girl. I have a 22ft boat and used to ski. I became the designated driver when my kids aged and grandkids came. Tubing is awesome. Since my SCI, July 2013 I have been floating on a raft twice, and becoming a blotch in the sun..lol. I'm determined to put on a PFD, or belt and swim this summer. Problem w/ temp changes and spasticity. Like I said, you've given me motivation to let others help and don't worry about the attractive show....flapping limbs... JUST get in there !!!! We have friends w/ an airchair, kind of like your gizmo but it has a foil and a long post....Enjoy :} Love the pic
