Im sure that almost everyone with Spinal Cord Injury has at sometime, or do , suffer from stress or anxiety. Physical effects of SCI are focused on but not so much the mental and emotional strain.
Dealing with stress over long periods of time, will have a negative effect on the body at some point. Do you have any stress management that help?
Removing yourself from stressful situations, thinking about how to fix the problem, not stressing about stress, and avoiding situations which are potentially stressful are all good ways to manage stress.

Great advice Knight, how are things going by the way? Its good to see you on the forum

Things have been going really well. I've got a constant flow of paperwork I have to do, but it will be worth it in the end. I'm staying busy while waiting for my apartment remodel to be finished.

Knight, you have had your fair share of difficulties so I'm really pleased that you are things are settling for you
I gave myself a much-needed pep talk today. I told myself, "Let go of these irrational fears of falling and that ridiculous idea that people are going to think I look weird walking! You are buff and you have already built up your Gluteus Maximus, hip abductors & adductors, and all those other muscles in that area quite a bit, so stop doubting your abilities!" I have walked about 18 meters today! I am surprisingly speedy too <--there's no walker smiley
The point of this post was that I give myself pep talks when I am scared and/or nervous. It's okay to talk to yourself

Haha that's awesome Knight, congrats! It is totally normal to talk to yourself and push yourself that way. Look at what you've accomplished from doing so
The people I have talked to with an SCI find practicing mindfulness helps. ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) is becoming increasingly popular for stress management across the board I have found. Edit: also talking to someone about what bothers can be helpful, it's an oldie but a goodie

I have a spinal cord injury And what you have told is absolutely true..I suffer from very much stress and anxiety in each and everything that I come across. I can’t manage it even for small things. I shout at my children always and this is really making them as well as me very upset. I even fear whether children would hate me for this reason. After opening up to my sister, she has advised me to consult with an orthopedic surgeon at AESM,Toronto. She says like physiotherapy would help me. But I haven’t ever tried this and hence Idk anything regarding the same. Has physio got any role in dealing with the stress or anxiety?? I really doubt! Pls help.
I suffer from "drop everything I pick up" and it is real frustrating, at times resulting in loud curse words being let loose from my mouth. I wonder if neighbors can hear me and if they think I'm crazy. Linda I believe frustration plays a large role in many sci issues. ive found also that 99.9% of others have no idea what it is like to be in our situations, even medical doctors, in fact they are the cause of many of our situations and frustrations, so that is why we need to help one another in this forum instead of relying on others that have no idea what we go through on a daily basis, even minute to minute.
