So, I've been trying the evolv glider frame, today was try #3. I like it, I see great benefits. My wife helping me transfer in and out of it the first time was pretty good, the next two times not the best. Anyway, I have a pullup bar that is secured between two posts, I go in spurts of using it, I can't use it unattended like I can the evolv glider. With the glider it seems that one thing that surprisingly keeps me secure is the knee supports that velcro around and keep me secure. When you make your own standing frame do you make something similar to those? I was thinking with my pullup bar if I could figure out how / where to attach knee supports securely that I could use when standing it just might work. In the glider I drop the seat and practice squats safely, maybe I could do this safely with my pullup bar from my chair with proper knee supports. I like the glider and the possibilities but the price is high, which could be worth it. I'm struggling with deciding whether I should try to buy it or not. Feedback please and thoughts on trying to set up secure knee supports for standing and squatting safely at my pullup bar. Thank you!
abacoian the few things that the glider can do that a pull-up bar type standing contraption can't do is give you a cardio workout, upper & lower body strengthening and stretching especially when you're moving in the glider. At the spinal cord injury recovery clinic I go to, they've created something similar to what you have but using a squat rack. What I like about it is that it's not as restrictive as the glider and it feels like you're actually standing and not being forced to stand but it requires a lot of work for whoevers standing me. To be honest I like standing on the squat rack more than on the glider but I think the glider is more benifical to us. On the squat rack, I can't stand for nearly as long as I can on the glider because my blood pressure drops quickly since my legs aren't moving and pumping the blood flow around. Plus like I mentioned before, my arms don't get much of a workout on the squat rack since they're not moving and in turn get no cardio workout. I feel like I'm becoming an Evolve Glider salesman but hopefully not lol I'm just giving you my opinion based on my experience and telling you what I think is best.
DJ I thank you greatly, I do need your experience and opinions. I am really trying to decide on getting the glider. Standing in the glider I'm wondering if I can work on a complete core strengthening program. I exercise but am no expert in the what and how of strengthening and working the right movements and muscles to bring results. But in that standing position I'm wondering what the possibilities are. Thank you so much for your help.

You're welcome abacoian! It is a big investment if you were to get one so I completely understand why you might be hesitant to make such a big purchase. How much longer are you allowed to keep the demo stander for?
EDIT: Just read your post in your other thread. Looks like you'll have it for a few more days which is great.
I used it for an hour this morning, it seems to get better everytime. Today I just relaxed with the movements instead of trying to use my might to achieve things it went better, my shoulder isn't hurting. My transfers are much better. I try to do squats before I get off and hoping it builds strength and carry's over. Wondering if I'd have gotten a glider before now where I might be, but also excited to use it now and make progress. I hope I can get it.

That's excellent abacoian, you're making some really good progression! Don't worry about "what if" you started using it before, it's better late than never and I think you're doing an excellent job with trying to recover.
Thank you DJ. Have you seen any scrapes and bruises from using the glider? I already have a little spot on my right knee from the knee strap rubbing I assume. I expect there will be a few things that I will just have to be careful of. As a quad I tend to sit slouched, I think maybe I'm already noticing times I'm sitting up straighter, just that would be another benefit of using it. Do you find it has helped your posture?
