it's going to cost me $330 a month just to poo, lol how I'm going to afford it I just don't know, although my wife did suggest that I give up smoking, lol
You guys have a very happy Butiki this morning, my continence nurse rang me yesterday afternoon to tell me that my application for peristeen funding through the NT government has been approved, YAY. I'm a very happy chappy this morning . So now I just have to wait for all the red tape to be done and away I go again. My nurse ordered the first supply yesterday. This will go down in poo history in Australia as I'm the first Australian to get funding for this product. I really hope it starts to get going for others with major poo problems. The only thing is that we have to reapply every six months, but I don't think it will be a problem.
Just read this update...outstanding news! But, if you give up smokes, then money in your pocket, healthier life, happy wife (only good can come from this), and you still can wear normal undies!
This is great news Butiki!! Im so pleased for you! I am of the ethos that no one should have to pay to be able for a bodily function that is everyones basic right!

That's amazing Butiki, congrats! I can imagine how much of a relief that must be!
Oh I think you should give up smoking since something good happened.
Well after two months of waiting since my approval for peristeen, it's here. . To our knowledge I'm the first Australian to get funding for this excellent BM system. I can't recommend it enough, it's changed my life.

This is excellent news Butiki! Im so pleased for you....and for others that will benefit..You have set the stall for other Australians too! I remember when you were thinking of trying out the system...seems such a long time ago lol
I'm very pleased this worked out for you, i know the difference it makes to your life
Have used peristeen system for about a year in conjunction with prucalopride (resolor) and lactulose but after thinking wow this may work initially I have to admit that I am still unable to manage my routine and so the next thing I am to try is sacral nerve stimulation booked for the end of October! I wonder if anyone else has been down this route and can give me helpful hints please. If things do not improve the next plan is to try a temporary colostomy so I am eager to try all before this! Thanking you in anticipation x
Hi June, its a shame the peristeen wasnt effective. Sounds like part of the issue may be the stools not moving down...How do you feel the procedure will help? Im wondering if you will still have some issues even with this...Lactulose isnt the best option for SCI related issues so maybe it will be worth asking your doctor or bowel nurse about Movacol or something similar?
Of course im not a medic but i used to have similar issues and i always used lactulose.
Hey june, sorry to hear that it's not working for you! I've never heard of a sacral nerve stimulation before but hopefully someone else can give you some insight on it. Good luck!

Thank you Lara I meant movicol, I stopped lactulose some time ago. I am not sure why things are so awkward for me, my transit studies show slow transit and my consultant hoped the resolor and movicol would work in line with the perisreen stimulating the peristalsis. I just cannot keep a consistent consistency in the stool to allow me to go. I have had that many investigations and the sns is my last option to try.. my pelvic floor muscles are not functioning and even 20 weeks of daily stimulation barley changed the initial readings. My greatest concern has been the risk of prolapse as both the bowel and bladder are descending into the vaginal wall and this is still happening, Frustrating!!!

wow it has been ages since I last visited and so here I am once again. Its the time of year when we most think of others and remember those who are no longer with us but hey-ho I still have to write my Christmas cards to family and friends and thought I would wish you all the best of everything for this festive season xxx I have had my trial of sacral nerve stimulation and am gutted that it did not work on my erratic/unpredictable bowel issues so will now see the stoma nurse and prepare myself for this option. I have decided to keep coping as long as I can whilst getting my head around this decision ( at least my surgeon has offered the chance of a temporary stoma initially to assess whether this will better suit my needs and offer me my life back. Ok I am off now but believe me when I say I think of you all often and sincerely wish you all a happy Christmas x
Sorry to hear that the sacral nerve stimulation didn't go to well, I hope the stoma works well for you. Hope you have a great holiday and we're looking forward to seeing you back on here soon!
