Just an update...i had my appointment yesterday at the hospital. I had moulds made of my feet so the supports can be made.
My physio from the spinal unit attended the appointment with me to oversee what they intended to do and how the supports may help. The shoe supports should be ready in 2/3 weeks so i will go back and get them fitted and the physio will observe my walking gait..so progress at least.
My walking gait with my crutches is pretty good but i dont 'strike' off the normal way (feet) when i walk so im compromised a little....the supports should help with the problems this causes...hopefully
I think you'll be amazed, Lαrα, at the difference custom orthotics can make. The second factor for success is the material from which they are crafted--you need just the right balance of cushioning and support. Will these orthotics transfer between difference shoes, or are you limited to a single pair? For me, having no sensation in feet, it is critical to have a deep toe box to avoid abrasions. That means high end athletic shoe or granny-type shoe. Guess which I chose!!!! With braces, I wear the same shoes all the time. They are two expensive to have more than one pair.
Thats encouraging to hear wavewolf, i wasnt holding too much hope at them making so much difference. I have very little sensation in my feet, i never wear shoes at home so i have better contact with the floor.
I would no way wear any ugly looking shoes, even if it helps my walking...im way too vein lol
I think if they help then i may get another pair made for sure and i dont know if they can be transferred to other shoes..i hope they can be but if not i will need a second set

It's amazing how relief of pain can drive you to be happy in ugly shoes!
Please check with them if you want to wear orthotics in various shoes. They can be made to do so, multilayer approach, with bottom of silicon that will exactly fit shape of shoe and part to lay on top (doesn't slip if surface prepared) that is custom to your foot.

Thankyou wavewolf, your advice has been invaluable and has given me questions to present on my next appointment
i don't really know what to say, i am overwhelmed with the first thing i come upon after i joined this community. my docs are going to start testing me for cauda equina syndrome, and all the problems you are talking about in the first post i read, i have them all.

btw, i hardly ever do capital letters because of my problems with my hands and fingers.
leitwolf, Welcome to the forum. Another "wolf" here now--you, me, and lonewolf make a pack, right?! Lots of info, and you'll learn your way around. On Home page, scroll down to blue heading "Other", and click on "Forum Features" for some basic help.
I recently began getting some feeling in my right ankle and I noticed a pain that was not like anywhere else in my CES affected areas. I went to an orthopedic podiatrist. He found that I have a torn tendon in that ankle. Fix is surgery... I talked him into a brace. I'm doing pretty good with the brace and he said when I have more bad days than good, or too much pain, then it will be time for the surgery. Bottom line is that my lack of feeling in my ankles (and rest of the foot area) contributed to rolling and instability in my walking gait which caused this. Left ankle is fine.
wavewolf thanks for the straightening the toe tip. My big toe on my right foot has started curling under a lot. It hurts like hell when I straighten it out though. Do you have the same issue? Lαrα, good luck with the shoe supports, let us know how they work out for you!

No this is strange. My braces were causing pressure sores, and I could no longer wear them. Without them my left ankle is so weak I couldn't put pressure on it without a fair amount of discomfort. So I bought these heavy duty work boots that sorta work like braces. When I started wearing them the arch on my right foot was felling like it was in a constant charlie horse. I thought it was just the boot but now it feels like someone banged on the bottom of my foot with a hammmer, with or without the boot. When I was first injured at times I could swear there was a rock in my shoe, painful to the point I couldn't walk on it. That went away for the most part, but this feeling is different. Like it's really, really bruised. May be the nerve issue, strange though after three years.

Not much, I wonder if it might be all the time in the braces. The braces were always super tight on that foot. I have new AFO's being made now so we'll see how it goes. Just one more thing to work out, no biggy.
