I think it would be good of we have a thread where we can discuss and share the difficulties that we have found solutions for. It's a great way to share and I am sure one person's experience will benefit another at some point.

I so wanted to sharpen my chainsaw after that pic Lara. My main difficulty is walking. So I go until I can no longer walk, then figure out what it will take to get me back on my feet. So far I've been lucky, I've had options and they have worked. So far I've had walking sticks, a walker, a wheelie cart, crutches, 4 sets of AFO's, and a ankle reconstruction. Whatever it takes.
kilg0retr0ut, you do keep working at it, I admire you for your determination to keep your upright mobility. Oh i'm sorry about the pic I take it your not a treehugger
Coming from a handicap friendly city (Vancouver) where even able bodied people can't help but notice the facilities for the disabled such as ramps and extra large doors and washroom facilities, and finding myself in the south of France in an area renowned for retirement and old age, I am amazed at how innaccessible many places are. For instance the entrance to my father's retirement home has a step big enough that it requires me to get out of my chair so that my wife can lift it over for me. My doctor's office and the pharmacy have no ramps and require me to use the walking frame to access. As parking is not always handy and I'm not as mobile in the frame this poses a problem. I would have thought that an area with so many aging and elderly people would have made some accomodation in this regard.
I have found an app from Wheelmap.org that looks interesting. I'm downnloading it now and we'll see how effective it is....looks interesting though...will let ypou know.
It's quite crazy isnt it hmalbet, the business World is very slowly waking up to the smart potential of making public places accessible to those with mobility issues.
hmalbet, it works on my iPad! Cool app, I've never heard of it before but it's very detailed. I'm surprised there's already data on their system for my area. I'll use it!
Last year my wife and I did a two week Med. Cruise. Everyone told us to stay on the ship in Venice. I kept asking and someone told me how to get on the ferry on the Grand Canal. At our stop (St. Marks Square) the crewman motioned for me to wait until people got off and the boat rose to almost dock level. He yelled to some other passengers and 6 men grabbed my chair and lifted me to the shore. When we finished our time ashore the reverse happened. Thanks to all the friendly Italians we enjoyed our day in Venice.

It doesn't work on my iPad...maybe too old...It seems to work on my iPhone though...I've downloaded the Wheelmap app and it's pretty good although it's a work in progress and a lot of data needs to be added for the area I'm in right now...It's more Euro oriented at the moment but I imagine it will spread out when the word gets out...I'm going to plug in the gaps wherever I'm at on both platforms so as to get good coverage. They're both pretty good and need all of our support and input.

Ahh I see, yeah the app took a bit to load so it could be since you're using an older iPad. I'm using an iPad Air 2 haha. Is wheelmap similar to AccessNow?

Wheelmap is an actual app that you can get from the app store and it's more interactive from what I can see..you can rate sites and add content. My iPhone version of Accessnow doesn't seem to be able to interact with...and it keeps sending me back to a different website that it's based on (Webmap)
