I hope this isn't against the rules to post. The only time I leave my house is to go to one of many regular doctors' appointments, as I'm sure many of you can relate. I used to be extremely active outdoors. Now the only thing I do is lay in bed sleeping, eating and watching TV. I want to pursue an amateur interest in astronomy, so I really need a telescope. I have created a website where donations can be made. hartmann6567.wixsite.com/karenhartmann
It's not against the rules but it would be surprising if people (us) who do not know you gave to your effort. You might be better served getting involved in an astronomy club, which would offer some social connections as well as star-gazing. Some clubs also lend out telescopes and if you lack transportation who knows? They might offer to help. There are several opportunities in the Jacksonville area, I just searched "astronomy clubs, Jacksonville FL"
I'm sorry, but I find it frustrating when people come on here ask for money for stuff like this. Hell, I hate it when people ask for money for wheelchairs.
I agree with all the posts so far, Tetra, lavender, offering helpful suggestions. And I particularly agree with Crappler. The thing about astronomy is you don't have to buy a telescope to marvel at the heavens. There is so much you can learn about our galaxy, our solar system, black holes and other astrological phenomena simply by reading the right books or looking online. Why limit your studies to the universe? There's more to marvel at in the quantum world, the study of fundamental particles. Be prepared for amazing truths to manifest themselves as you read and study. You can escape the humdrum reality of your life by turning the television off and opening up an interesting book. Did we not fund you for a wheelchair, Karen? I may have gotten it wrong. Apologies if I have. You say the only time you go out is to see the doctor or perhaps visit the hospital. What is the point of having a fabulous wheelchair if you are not going to use it? Get down the library and go to the astrological shelf and choose some books. You could try Stephen Hawkins 'a brief history of time'. That will get you started. He has recently been mentioned on this forum. What a fitting tribute to his life, if you were to read his book and go on to study astronomy in greater detail.
That was Knight who got a wheelchair recently. Karen67 has made her own website for the purpose of collecting donations, has informed us of it, given us a link to it, and has invited us to give a donation toward an item she wants. Our forum administrators are not collecting and dispersing the funds themselves, nor are they vouching for how the donated funds will be used. Karen takes full responsibility for her request. I don’t enjoy seeing requests for donations, but I can tolerate it. To stay out of nursing homes, I might myself someday throw myself on the mercy of unknown strangers.
I have connected with a member of NEFAS. I am planning on going to a public observing on June 15th. I have also joined several astronomy groups on Facebook and posted there. If people just donated even $1, it would help. I mean, if a thousand people donated $1 I could get a decent telescope!.
My website details my accident: hartmann6567.wixsite.com/karenhartmann. I have attached a radiology report from the day of my accident that details the spinal injuries.

NO, you did not fund me for a wheelchair. In fact, I just got a customized power chair today that was paid for by my insurance. I watch a lot of documentaries about astronomy and I view what I can with just my eyes. I am joining the local astronomy club and joining them on an outing on the 15th.

Good luck. Breaking out of depression can be really challenging, so just think about single steps.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your feedback. I am already i communication with NEFAS. However, I had not yet come across the UNF club, so thank you for that. I actually got a BS at UNF many years ago.
Tell us more about you, injury level. Why not start now with the internet or get a book and start looking at what you can see.
Look at my other replies on this thread. One of them includes attached radiology report of my injuries. The website link I have included previously details how I had my accident, as well. Thank you for asking.

There was a time I felt the same way. However, my injury has given me the humility to ask for help, whatever form it may be, when I need it.

I love your comments. Thank you so much. I actually hate asking for money. However, I have reached the point of needing to take drastic action to try to get out of this deep depression, otherwise, suicide (but not until after my mom passes away and she is 81) will be next and I do not want that. I want to learn how to want to live and enjoy it again.
Why don't you learn Astrology firstly, I can get you some resources for you, there are some great websites to learn from and you will know just what you are looking for.
I have one that wasnt too expensive, they dont need to be. Look out for second hand ones maybe or even start with binoculars?
Edited to add: I read all the thread comments and see that you are taking steps to join a club and go to a viewing, thats great to hear-good for you. I also think that its just fine that you have shared your donation page, people dont ask for help often enough. Unfortunately we live in a world that is gradually becoming more and more 'every man for himself' ( or woman for that fact!).

Thank you so much, especially about it being ok that I asked for help!
