I was wondering where people worked, or in my case, I volunteer. This is where I volunteer 3 days a week and is a lot of fun. www.facebook.com/JimmyCarterNHS The picture of this school (my Alma Mater) was taken by a yearly visitor from Australia. He loves coming to the town that "Time Forgot".

Great post Millard! I too am curious to know where people work/volunteer and how they do it with their disability. It's good to see that you're volunteering Millard. What do you do there? It looks like an interesting place!
I don't work or volunteer yet but I'm going to have to in the future.
Thats great Millard...volunteer work is very satisfying.
Im volunteering at a local primary school...im qualified in teaching children with special education needs...autism...speech and language dyspraxia etc...so im doing some work there..I just started 3 weeks ago with a young boy with selected mutism....ive just this week offered to work with other children.
I felt the hard work was wasted that i had to put in to gain my degree in this field just 7 years prior to my injury and i am passionate about making a difference so im happy that im continuing....its not about the money...i just love seeing the progress that these children make...interacting with them,.
This week was the first time i had constant eye contact from this little boy..he was trying his best not to smile as we played a game with a model wizard that was turning all the teachers into frogs and hedgehogs....he spoke to me for the first time.. ..how can you put a value on that feeling!
Lara, that must be very rewarding working with the Special Needs children. I cannot imagine how that makes you feel inside.
DJ, with the National Park Service, the volunteers usually help the rangers (folding brochures, doing inventory and etc.). My case is a little different as I was born & raised here and went to the school pictured...12 years in the one building and had 22 in my graduating class. I am at the front door of the school and I try to welcome every person that comes through the school. It difficult sometimes when we have 2 or 3 tour buses coming in at the same time with 40+ people on each. Plus, we have some 60,000 school kids coming through yearly. I have a lot of fun with the visitors and 99.99% of the time I can answer any questions they pose.
Lαrα, what you're doing is great and as Millard has mentioned, it must be a nice feeling!
Millard, that's really cool and exciting what you do. That's a lot of people you have to welcome but it must be nice socializing with others and answering their questions.
Millard. That sounds very interesting and you sound extremely knowledgeable. Its good to be busy and active.
DJ and Millard I love what ive just started doing in school, its very rewarding and its at the school i used to work at so its nice to be back there. I love children, they are a joy!

Hi Millard. I work at the local cinema as a cashier. I am able to stand but not walk for a good amount of time so when I get tired I take a quick rest. The management staff are great and really understand my situation which is a good thing. I was scared that it would hard to find a job until I have more function but it wasnt as hard as I thought it would be to find a job,
I am a Senior Executive Chef for the Cheesecake Factory. I got hurt back at the beginning of August and I'm trying to figure out how to do my job. It used to be much easier
Ah yeah, that's good you're back kisch5! You're still early in your injury so give it some time Yes I do live in Toronto, well about 20 minutes North of Toronto.
