I’m new to the group and I’ve been encouraged to reach out for encouragement, support and education. I’m currently in PT and OT and have made progress, but it feels like I’ve stopped improving. I’m 3 months post op of decompression by the way of a bilevel fusion. Would love some encouraging stories or words. On a positive note I did drive by myself to rehab yesterday-first time since 4/15/2020.
I'm so glad you can drive. I would be able to drive in a modified car. Even though I don't have one, just knowing that my eyes, hands, and arms still work is reasurring. My loss, though called "incomplete", is so thorough that there's nothing to "rehab", so I have no stories for you.
Welcome faith! I'm happy you have joined us! There's lots of awesome people round here.
I don't have an sci personally, however my son does.. He's a few years post injury now, he goes from strength to strength everyday, he has his down days but by and large he's super happy.
I am 26 mos post surgery now. I have found that periodically I will plateau for a bit. This would scare me into thinking I had hit my limit but now I know its just what happens. I did find that some meds did slow me down, mostly muscle relaxants that i needed for a time for spasms. its hard to work on strengthening when the meds are relaxing. Once I was able to stop those, progress continued. PTandOT was great helping me not get discouraged, pointing out continued small increments of improvement. Its rough , set reasonable goals for yourself.
it sounds like u are fairly mobile, that alone should be a huge source of encouragement. i cant walk more than a few steps a day but keep pushing for more. just spent 4 days down because of pushing too hard for a while, then body said no more. just remember to take it slow and try and gauge what your body can handle so u dont overdo it.
Welcome faith, which part of your spinal cord was damaged? Its wonderful that you are able to drive! What movement did you lose and have now recovered? 3 months is still very early days when one has suffered a SCI so please don't be discouraged
