sherry, I've had my TiLite ZRA for just over two years now and I love it! I haven't had an issues with it so far (thankfully) and I think I can get at least another 2 years from it I haven't tried any other chairs but I really don't think I have to. If you have the money then I'd say go for it but if you're on a tight budget you should look into the chair Butiki suggested
tbone57, is that the Permobil C500 Standing Chair you're talking about?
Hi sherry, why would you have to pay for the upkeep of a Tilite as against any other wheelchair ? My Areo Z is just 12 months old and the only things I've done to it is get it adjusted after a few months after everything had settled down. I had the back lowered, as its fully adjustable and surge push rims fitted and a new cushion, these are obviously not wheelchair issues. My chair has a fairly hard life and have no issues with it at all, it's been a perfect chair for me. We are expected to get 5 years out of a wheelchair here and I don't see any reason why I won't get that out of this wheelchair, I love it.

From how I understand it, our government pays for the Quickie w/c and maintenance period. If you choose another brand, you do so at your own expense. I have a tendency to think they have some sort of exclusivity thing going on or have friends who own the company. Aka corruption.
Certinally sounds a bit sus to me sherry, I think it would be worth looking a bit deeper into it, maybe start writing a few letters to ur local member, that sort of thing.
Me, I have a Quickie, I really want to get a standing wheel chair made by the standing wheel chair company in the US. Sales rep came to physical therapy with a demo, really cool and eliminates the need for a separate stander. Getting ready to do battle with insurance company for it, the're kind of in a one size fits all mode we shall see what happens.
Hi, I looked quickly at their web page and I can't see how much those chairs weigh. Especially they one that is manual because it must be heavier than our Quickie's are. I bought an Easy Stand Glider after I got back from Journey Forward. It was 7500$ so I suppose if you have a two in one, it would be less expensive and no extra transfers necessary. I would just be worried about all the extra force needed if it is a lot heavier.
Hi Sherry: I also bought an easy stand, before I knew about the standing chair. The benefit of the standing chair I thought was you can bring yourself to a standing position anywhere, anytime you want. I think this would be great for bones and flexibility which are so important to maintain. The down side of this chair is the weight as you mentioned, so I think the most practical type of standing chair to get is the power model, otherwise you might blow out your shoulders pushing the heavier chair around. I had this discussion with the rep and he felt the same way, he uses a semi power chair basically the same controls as a motorized wheelchair. They do have people at their shop who take all your paperwork and present it to the insurance companies and they will help you appeal if you get turned down. I'm in the process of getting my paperwork done now hoping for the best as the chairs are expensive of course, but so many benefits!! I really think this type of chair should be the standard but thats another battle for another day. Hope this was helpful!!
tbone57 & sherry, I've tried the Permobil C500 standing power chair but didn't like it so I also got Easy Stand Glider. Have you tried and of the standing chairs?
Tilite TR. It's the best chair I've ever had and I will stay with Tilite when I get a new chair. The quality is top notch, the design is very well thought out and the service from the company has been really impressive. The chair just goes and goes. No breaks or problems. It's tough as hell and always dependable. For all these reasons I'm sticking with Tilite. Geez I forgot to mention the ride. My first impression when I got the chair was that it was like riding on velvet. It's also very stable. I took a usual route and braced myself for a transition from the street up over to some concrete sidewalk - this spot was always scary. The Tilite just went right over without an issue. I feel safer and I trust my Tilite. I can't say that about previous chairs.
Hey wavewolf, I had never heard of the Heilo wheelchair, I just googled it, not a bad looking chair. I honestly didn't know that the Canadians made a wheelchair. Being a Canadian chair sherry, maybe you could get funding and aftercare for this brand of wheelchair.
wavewolf, I've never heard of the Helio until not either but it looks like a decent chair. It also looks like it's made/supplied by Motion Specialties who happen to be my vendor. sherry, they were your vendor too right?
