My braces are just like the plastic ones. They are starting to look loose and the straps are getting long. I guess it's time for new ones. Are the black braces more difficult in put on?

There about the same. The white part of the new AFO's slips on like a slipper, then you push that into the carbon fiber shell and It locks right in. I would check into some new ones bensan. I was told I was going downhill with my old ones. My straps were stretched also which I was told wears you out a lot faster. I thought the old ones were fine till I got used to the new ones. My gait is greatly improved.
Well here is my CES story. I had never heard of CES until the 16/11/12.I had been out bush to a aboriginal community called Yeuendumu working, its about 300kms north west of where I live, I got home on the Thursday 8/11/12 evening and had a very slight back pain, really nothing to worry about, during the night it got a bit worse but still nothing to bad. I got up in the morning, pain still there, had shower and went to work, all good. At about 10am the pain got a lot worse and was radiating down my left thigh, then I went to lift some equipment of the back of the ute and the pain was intense, I called my manager and told him I was going to ED. Arrived at ED and was seen by a nurse,by this stage I could not stand, instead of being seen by a doctor 2 physio therapists saw me, they tried to make me walk down a hall way,was not going to happen, then on bed where they pushed and pulled me, I was in the most unbelievable pain by this stage. I got home and lay on the lounge till Sunday afternoon, back to ED and this time I saw a doctor who told me that I had sciatica and I will be OK in a few days, no x-rays nothing, just sent home with some panadole for the intense pain. camped on the lounge unable to move till Thursday again back to ED pain was unbearable again sent home with sciatica,LOL, that afternoon I hobbled over to the kitchen sink to get a glass of water and then I had the most intense pain in my lower back and down I went, I crawled to the lounge room and rang my wife, who was at work, as there was noway I could drive, she turned up with a friend and I could not get into her car,so we rang an ambulance, this was the 16/1/12. back in ED they finally took some x-rays couldn't find anything wrong so then they did a CT scan and they found a aneurism on my right renal artery,so they admitted me with the plan to fly me to Adelaide in the next few days to fix said aneurism, latter that night I felt the strangest sensation starting from my left toes goping up my leg and across my groin and down my right leg, guess what, i was now PARALYZED from the waist down. So then the panic set in, Doctors everywhere nurses running around and me not having a clue what was going on. then woke up being wheeled down to a waiting Ambulance and to the airport and flown to Adelaide, emergency surgery, 2 weeks on the spinal ward then 6 months in rehab in Adelaide,1500kms from my home and my family,Christmas day was fun. So here I am 8 months down the track, bowels don't work I self catheterize and I can not walk at all and I can stand for short periods of time if I'm holding onto something, my rehab consultant doubts very much if I will walk again as the damage to my nerves for being left untreated for so long is server. So there you have it in a nutshell as they say

When you desribed the strange sensation the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I felt exactly the same thing. I will say after it traveled across, the pain relief was so great I kinda passed out.
Butiki, that's another crazy CES story! I think there should be more awareness for CES detection beause it seems that most of the time the doctors don't even know what's going on. They say it'll go in a few days but the longer you wait, the worse your injury gets. I think if anyone gets symptoms as mentioned in here, the doctors should order an immediate x-ray. With any other injury with immediate paralyses you'll be treated within a matter of hours but due to the nature of how CES starts and worsens up, they don't take it as serious.

Wow...a crazy story for sure as with most CES cases.....well all SCI peeps have some crazy kinda story but here's mine...
So it started when i fell down my horsebox steps on my back and cracked a disc in my spine but at the time i didn't realise that I had. The pain started down my right leg as sciatica, then moved to the right leg and lower back. At this point I went to the docs who referred me for physio and gave me painkillers. One week later I developed a patch of numbness just under my right buttock and weakness in my legs...finding this and with worseing pain I went back to the docs who put me on morphine and told me that if i couldn't feel myself when i wiped myself clean after peeing then I should go back to them urgently as this is serious and i will then need to go for an MRI scan. 2 days later the numbness has spread to all my buttocks and back, sides of my legs and feet and i could no longer walk...the pain was unbearable....at which point I went back to the doctors who examined me and said I was ok and to go home....with more pain meds
So that following several days were a nightmare..i had called the docs again for advice on pain relief..I could no longer sleep or lie down, my bowels were not functioning and then two days after calling the doctor for pain relief advice I went to pee and realised that i was numb there when i wiped myself clean.
I called my docs to tell them and was upset and confused when they told me that they were not sending me for a scan but instead told me to wait for my physio appointment which was 3 weeks later.
I cant put into words what those 3 weeks were like..it was literally a living hell and i thought at that point I was dying.
I waited for my physio appointment and after assessment he quickly brought a specialist who then examined me (rectally) and said that I needed an emergency operation, that day.
I was then blue lighted by ambulance for an MRI at the nearest hospital and then onto a neuro hospital for my op which was carried out at 5 in the morning. The damage was to l4/5 and pretty extensive and due to the time factor it was also irreversable.
I was operated on with a deep vein thrombosis that they didn't know about and then developed a further two post op......
so thats my story.....seems ages ago and yet its only 2 years and months.

I'm not comfortable enough yet to share my whole story, but it's creepy similar to those posted. Most where we live (boondocks would be a understatement) had never even heard of CES.

I don't mind telling my "story" to other CES patients. It really bugs me when strangers ask about my braces or how something happened. A few years ago we were in Put In Bay on Lake Erie. We were in one of their local establishments and a young man came over "Can I ask you a personal question?" he said. "Sure", was my reply. "What happened to you?" "None of your %&*# business" He walked away never to be seen again. In seven years I only had the courage to say that once.
LOL bensan! Whenever someone asks me what happend I just say car accident. If they ask about the accident I just say it's a long story and leave it at that, unless I'm really bored.

I quit trying to explain CES, it sounds crazy. People still think I'm on the mend. I just say I have nerve root damage. I had a kid ask me about my braces the other day at radioshack. He had just been measured for an AFO for drop foot, he had be in a car accident. Not only did I explain how mine worked, I took off my shoe in the middle of the store to show him how they lock together. I don't mind if the person is sincere.
