I think it will interesting to find out how if many people actually suffer from spasticity with Cauda Equine Syndrome. When I was in my rehab spinal unit i explained to one of the physiotherapists that i experience spasms in my left ankle. The spasms were strong and would twist my foot and be very painful...often needing assistance to straighten it back.
Now, the spasms are in both ankles and in my toes...my toes bend back and my ankle stiffens and then twists either left or right...its painful but very annoying!
In addition i also experience bladder spasms when catheterising and in the back of my thighs.
I do notice that when my bladder is full the spasms are worse. Ive tried to assess wether the spasm are worse with activity such as upright mobility but i havent yet noticed a pattern.
Please participate in the poll and your comments will be more than welcome..if you replied yes then please tick one of the boxes to say where you experience the most..and then in your comment you can say where else you experience them
To be honest I'm not not sure wether I suffer from spasms of if it's nerve pain. What I get is like an electric shock that goes down my left leg then explodes in my left foot, can be quite painful but more uncomfortable mostly. My foot does move a bit but not to the same extent that your saying Lαrα.

That sounds almost certainly like nerve pain Butiki, unfortunately ..i get nerve pain in my butt and thighs and feet..it varies from stabbing, shooting to burning... ive noticed that at night, my toes and feet are 'jerky; and twitching and the goes up my legs too lol
Butiki, do you think you're moving your leg when you feel the electric shock like a reflex movement? That might be what the movement is but the shock is definitely nerve pain!

Just to be sure, muscle spasms, right? Yes, if I did not take my medication for muscle spasms, the pain in my legs would keep them fused together and my mobility would be severely limited.
But they are generally not so bad that I jerk or twist abnormally. Sometimes the nerve pain will cause me to jerk and twist because it is so unexpected and painful.
I made a friend in rehab, Brent, he was a T from the chest down ? Anyway I was talking to him on the phone the other day and he told he me he gets very bad spasms, he has been thrown out of his chair 3 or 4 times, and he finds it hard to breath. He is on the highest dose of anti spasm drugs ( I can't spell balfalon) you can be on, he is at his wits end on what to do next. By the way I have tried to talk him into coming in here but he won't, silly man.
I also get the spasms, and cramps, in my lower shins/ankle area. I think part of this stems from an old injury where I developed severe shin splints in my early 20's. I've never been able to run since (well more than a few hundred feet anyway.)
Yes, muscle spasms ladylimpsalot....can i ask if you take baclofen for the spasms?
I take a muscle relaxer, I think it's the generic for robaxin. But muscle spasms are a symptom of CES. I am sure that we all have them to one degree or another.

When i get a spasm its when i have catheterized and its when the catheter is inserted and the bladder spasms in reaction at the neck of the bladder, its a muscle and it tightens
to be honest its more painful for me than a flutter but maybe other members may be able to say if they experience bladder spasms if that differs for them
Thankyou. It's a strange sensation and it only happens just prior to needing a wee. It almost feels like the first movement's of a baby kicking inside. I almost have an irritable urge to open my bladder there and then, but then my brain kicks in and tells me I ought to go to the loo!! Very weird. I have Fibro, so am very foggy at times. Thankyou for replying :0)
