Lαrα Unfortunately I don't as of now, but if I find any I will definitely post a link. I think it's not as promoted because there are no "definite" results, like "doing acupuncture for x amount of sessions will get you ___ back." Some people respond well, and others not as much. I know one client, maybe 5-6 years post, was in for acupuncture and ended up regaining bowel and bladder.. Another gal who was 12 years post regained lower leg function through a combination of therapy and acupuncture. Again, and this is the difficult part, the results from these things do and WILL vary from person to person, but it's better than doing nothing, PLUS I don't think I've ever felt as relaxed as I do after an acupuncture session!
I have acupuncture treatments weekly for at least the last six months. I stopped intermittent cathing about a week ago! I can't completely void but my last cath was about 125 ml. Good enough for me! I am very careful not to strain and inadvertently push urine back to my kidneys. Maybe the acupuncture treatments are helping? I definitely am gaining control of my sphincter.

As a complete needlephobe, I never thought to try this therapy. but I know others who have found great benefit. I do know that every effort made to use what I have and push the limits to gain strength, manage spasticity, and increase functionality HAS paid off. My doctors are amazed at the amount of recovered function and adapted means, and that is in the context of a chronic and progressive disease. I only recently learned that my level of SCI was not L3 (which is what I had understood from MRI reports), but T9--incomplete.

That is so encouraging! Now I think I must look into this.
I started doing acupuncture about 4 months after my surgery in 2012 but had to stop as my physiotherapist was not registered with the applicable regulatory body. So he found out how to get on the appropriate membership list, took the additional training and became registered with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Accupuncturists of Ontario. So a month ago I started accupuncture again and at weekly sessions we do Shockwave Therapy and Electroaccupuncture. I'm willing to try anything and completely trust my physiotherapist who has been seeing me since the start. At the first shockwave treatment my big toe on my left foot moved in response to stimulus and it hasn't moved in two years. After three treatments I'm doing lots of toe flexing at home but I think I'm seeing improvement. Of course it's not appropriate for everyone but I thought it was worth mentioning. Here are a couple of links for info, my physio guy is located in Brockville, Ontario. www.acephysio.ca/services/shockwave-therapy www.surreyacupuncture.com/electro-acupuncture
Excellent info katydid, thanks for sharing! Brockville is only a few hours away from where I live so maybe I can go check it out one day. I've done a lot of regular acupuncture but never the electroacupuncture. The latter seems more effective so I'll definitely get it a try!

Sounds great katydid and thankyou for sharing the links

That is some awesome news Dlevy Be careful, I was at that point then found that my last void before bed, if I cathed afterword I still had more than recommended, much more. Thought I was close to empty, but still had too much. Just my experience.
I'll probably tick off anyone who hasn't already been ticked off by some of this thread. You'll just have to accept me as I am or ignore me.
As far as I'm concerned God does exist. God is part of my soul and everyone else's.
The I tried to prove God as a myth the more Darwinism fell apart. Evolution can't explain why humans have reason, the desire to learn, and free will. No other creature on this planet has all three of those traits! NONE! No other monkey, ape or bipedal creature has even two of those critical traits. Not even one of those traits can be linked from apes to humans trough any amount of sciennce. I know because I tried to prove Darwin right and I failed because science can't explain how we evolved the three critical traits that make us human from apes. Go ahead and try to prove Darwin right. It can't be done!
God can heal our souls but we are responsible for healing our bodies. God gave us free will and we have to live with the consequences of our actions and the action of others towards us.
Now that I have alienated DJ and many others I will drop that topic and move on to acupuncture.
Acupuncture can help if the cause of the damage to the nerves has been resolved. If the cause is still present no healing will happen. I had a pain management doctor that was going to try acupuncture on my until he read my case history discovered that I have scar tissue that formed on my spinal cord after the last back surgery. The scar tissue continues to put pressure on the nerves so he told me that acupuncture was a waste of time until the scar tissue could be permanently removed.
Great post truwrecks, it's good to be open and express your feelings/opinions. I also believe in God and like you say, we have to deal with what we put ourselves into but I always wonder what the justification is for babies born with disabilities, etc. They surely didn't do anything to deserve it so why does it happen or should I say, why does God let it happen?

While I can't answer that question directly, I do know of many babies that were born with disabilities that are traceable to the DNA or toxins in their mother's body while they were still developing in the early stages. I'm sure not every baby born with a disability falls into that category but many do.
Other than I can say trust what you personally believe in. If you don't believe in something you will fall for anything.

What is the downside of too much? Reflux into the kidneys? I haven't cathed in a month now. I can feel pressure in my bladder and don't think it excessive. I also haven't had a UTI or any symptoms (which as you know makes you feel like you have the flu). I am able to exercise more and more since I've stopped cathing. I'm going to ride this out as I am progressing with sensation and muscle strength below my injury. I can't progress if I feel bad from infections caused by cathing. I appreciate your feedback and opinion!

As long I can go without a UTI is my thought. I should be cathing 6x a day, I cath before I go to bed. I like your attitude Dlevy, working as hard as you can. You are doing great.
