freewheeler, I do exactly that but it takes 5-10 business days for me to get my urine results back! By then I probably have another bacteria starting. I wish they were quicker
Its not good enough DJ, this really does need to be more efficient. I seen some new information on the forum about helping to avoid or treat UTI infections and i am certainly going to give them a try.
UTI infections are too dangerous for us but this culturing period is too long isnt it DJ. You would think that they would know that it is the same infection that is not cleared and treat it sooner. The regular doctors do not always know how to deal with these regular infections
Exactly freewheeler! They take to long and it really can be dangerous. The last thing one would want is for their untreated urinary tract infection to move up to the kidneys and get a kidney infection!
ridingdirty, it's good that you're drinking lots of water! Unfortunatly you will have to do more frequent intermittent catheterizations but it'll be worth it for that one week for the sake of flushing out that urinary tract infection
ridingdirty, i do hope you are feeling better. I have just had an awful time with a very stubborn UTI but i am sure you will be just fine after a few days when it is cleared. I would urge anyone to send another sample to your doctor to make certain that the medication has cleared your infection once your course is completed.

Had to stop doing bladder flushes because they were causing mild AD. Got a mild UTI. Blah. No symptoms but it cultured out. Weird. But other times when I have all the symptoms, it never cultures out. Who knows .. just had to share since my body is apparently doing it's own thing without me! Lol.

Knight, ive been reading through some of your posts and you have having several health issues...im just wondering if you have contact still with a spinal unit..?
Maybe you could do with a follow up appointment so you can get some of the problems you are experiencing looked at ?..just a thought... ..you do have to take good care of yourself..
Knight, I second what Lαrα has said. See if you can arrange for a follow up just to make sure everything's in order
It's too bad you had to stop doing the bladder flushes. I was thinking that the peroxide might be too strong! You should check out this product Millard does his bladder flushes with. I'll be trying it out soon too
DJ and @lαrα, I got symptoms after I started taking Cipro for my UTI. I called my doctor and she told me to stop taking the antibiotics, since I had no symptoms before, and see if the symptoms stay. If they do, it's just a switch of antibiotics. If they go away, I will take a urine culture test again and see if there is anything. While waiting for the first culture, it's possible my body just cleansed itself of the bacteria due to my increased consumption of water & cranberry juice. I'm wondering why you guys said to go to a spinal unit... ??
Certainly in my experience, I've found that they are more likely to really know what all the ins & outs of spinal injury associated problems are - GPs don't really have much, if any, experience of sci patients, and just treat us as they would any other patients, which isn't always appropriate.
That's very strange Knight, you think your AD symptoms have started after taking the Cipro? As for why we told you to go to the spinal unit, hobbit has just answered that

I wish there was a consistent magic formula for the treatment of UTI infections...one day maybe ....
I mentioned the spinal unit as you have had a few issues of late that would maybe benefit from some imput from your spinal unit...do you have any follow up appointments Knight? and indeed as already said they are much more knowledgeable than a regular doc
