kilg0retr0ut, I don't think you're offending anyone as that isn't your intention. You are not yet convinced about something and surely our other members will be more than happy to explain it to you. We're all friend on here so don't worry
I tried alpha lipoic acid for a week now and it's not working so I went back to Lyrica™.It felt like I was being stabbed in the foot and calf of my right leg.I'll be sticking with Lyrica™.

I call it as I see it DJ, I think it wonderful that people have found alteritives that work for them, and sharing that with others is dandy. But you can't believe that what works for you will work for everyone. Some people need medication, simple as that. It doesn't mean your weak or not trying hard enough, but thats the impression I get here lately. I really don't need any explanation or convincing. I understand you and Lara really want this to be a positive and supportive sight, but in the real world everything isn't always peachy. Sometimes you have to come down off that pink cloud and be real. I wish that putting tape on my feet would take away the nasty feeling in my feet, but the truth is I might as well put tootsie rolls between my toes. The minds an incredible thing and you can convince yourself of almost anything, if that works, superduper, but unless you have some kind of factual infomation backing up what you say, don't assume it should work for everyone. I think this is a great group of people here, I like everyone, even ladylimpsalot who must think otherwise at this point. I truly believe she's trying to help others. But convincing some members to ween off their meds could be dangerous. Like I said you have to balance the good with the bad medication wise. If it gives you a better quality of life, it has it's place.
Mark, I could not get by with the nerve pain and I could not live much of a life with this muscle pain. I am just saying that alpha lipoic acid does the same job as the gabapentin without the side effects.
Hurrah for modern medicine! It is a big help to so many people.
kilg0retr0ut, for the most part I am being real. I didn't know people were getting the impression that they're weak or not trying hard enough... Am I missing something? Also, I wasn't saying that something's right and wrong. Like you've said, what works for one person doesn't work for everyone and I understand that. I wasn't following the conversation on here but I was just replying to your post saying that it shouldn't be seen as offensive and that everyone's got their own opinion on things.
Hey boys............ LOL.......i get what you are saying kilg0retr0ut....and there is no right or wrong when it comes to medication or alternatives. It is definitely whatever works best for yourself.....Nerve pain and other SCI associated health issues are challenging and can be intolerable. If you need meds, you need them...simply. If an alternative works for those who shy from medication then thats cool too.
The real world certainly isnt so peachy and we are all going through different kinds of issues that each other has little idea of...... Im having a poo time at the moment but i need to come on here and be positive for our members because a positive site is exactly what DJ and I are trying to achieve.
We want this to be a place for everyone to come and chill...have a moan, have a rant.... share information/support and shake of some of that negative crap that we all deal with at different levels.
I think that in type..just as in text..its easy to misunderstand someone but im sure nothing personal is meant....sooooo ...group hug! (sorry..im teasing a litle lol)

Yes, I had the same nerve pains. I swear! And there's no pride to being off Gabapentin. Only a better memory! I would not presume to twist your arm. Take what works for you, Mark.

And no, most of us are not diabetics but the nerve pain can be the same.
No worries Lαrα, no harm done. I wasn't trying to argue with, upset or offend kilg0retr0ut. Anyways, talking about kilg0retr0ut, nice avatar picture mate! I'm loving the hat & glasses
I saw my consultant today, who comes up from Adelaide twice a year and she put me on Lyrica today, this is for the electric shocks that go down my left leg and explode in my foot ,mainly at night, and also for the feelings I get in my bum. I really hope this drug helps me with these two pains. But I'm a bit confused because the doctor told me I can take up to 3 capsuals 3 times a day if needed, but the pharmacist said I should only take 1 in the morning and 1 at night, the problem is I trust both of them.
Butiki, I hope it works out for you. As for the recommended dosage amount, does the pharmacist know what your doctor told you? If less medication works that's always better so start off with twice a day and if that doesn't work do what your doctor has asked. Don't use anymore than what your doctor has told you unless he says so himself.

As DJ says...start off with the two one in the morning and one at night and then see how you go, in the meantime call the secretary for your consultant and ask for your consultant to clarify the dose and mention what the pharmasist has mentioned to you.

Hey Butiki, I know eveyone here has heard "eveyone is different" you will have to start low and see at what level works to snuff out the shocks. I take 100mg, twice a day. I'm suppose to take 50mg 4x a day but I'd be missing doses left and right. I do want to say give it a coulple weeks, most of the side effects go away. Hope it works for you. Mark

My daughter loves your avatar maker. She takes great pride in her work.
Hi kilgoretrout, the doctor has started me on 25mg twice a day to start with, then increase if needs be. It seems to have settled the electric shock feeling quite a bit so far, but the strange feeling in my bum is still there, but I have only been taking it for a day. I really hope that it works for me. And thanks for your advice mate. When you say side effects, what should I expect ???? Now you have me worried, lol. ???
